(i also had other programs running such as winamp going and network connections and whatnot)...... 78% on your rig?.... nasty.....

PangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nice

the high cpu usage can be detected in front page as well as an ActiveX control, this is from using a non tweak WinXP SP2 RC1's Internet Explorer, i cannot view some sections on the page without enabling the ActiveX..

i also have 2 more WinXP on this computer, a tweaked WinXP SP1 and the other is also a tweaked WinXP SP2 RC1. i doubt it if any of my tweaks will help this matter, but i'll check it out anywhere later..

i really don't mind having this high cpu usage, just want to let you know..
as for an ActiveX, i normmaly use Mozilla so i never notice that and just saw it, and let you know as well/

PS. some pics is coming..

I just tried on my work PC (p3 1ghz, 512mb ram) and it was 1-30% cpu when loading and then sat at 3% when done. This was IE6 - default install on Nt4. (yuk)

Just sitting on this thread, I get between 13-35% usage. Average of about 30% most of the time.

when I get home ill run tests and temporarily remove the flash ads, then we can see just how much its affecting those on slower machines.

The NT machines in work are P3s. not an issue, never seeing over 10% on them. and as for the macintoshes, well its a blessing they even boot up, CPU time is hard to judge, they suck.

why is it when people have issues, i rarely see them?

Only time I see CPU spikes is when the add loads on each page. Here at work I am running a P4 3Ghz HT with 1Gb ram. The CPU spike is 60-75% and lasts for 2-3 seconds.

I thought we found this to be the Flash sigs used
(Panging inparticualar)

Turn of sigs and you'll see everythings a lot better

Panging is the worst by a long way it takes a good percentage 80+% and stalls my DC project somewhat.
The other less intensive one's only take a little.

Try it view panging's sig while using a Task Manager or similar then move the page so it doesn't show, it drops.

(BWX232 didn't see your link there, but that'll explain where we found it)

I hope people will do something about this and make sure their sigs are simpler and less CPU intensive

actually ive seen this in work now on a slower machine, with some of the flash on the site, most unfortunate some of the sigs like pangings really hog CPU time.

If this is an issue for alot of people ill have to do away with flash entirely, one of the problems of having a fast machine at home I never see these issues.

Zardon how about restricting it to Avatars only for a while, or maybe that's just my aversion to the large sig picture which I think spoil the forum (I prefer just avatars). They spoil the flow of reading. I don't mind a short text or small image sig myself as sometime's there's useful info but I hate large pictures (even yours).

Course that's upto you as you have to and (and certainly I wouldn't stop any advert flah pics.)

One thing though is over Remote Dektop you can really see panging's flash image in slow motion. There's just way to much detail and calculations going on.

they don't bother me anymore- I noticed it allot worse when I had Zone alarm PRO running- I uninstalled that and hings are back to normal. No sigs or flash on this site make CPU go above 15 or 20 at most. Plus I was running default speed for a few days back then when I really noticed it. 266fsb and 1500mhz- pretty slow..

When I run normal speed 200+fsb and 2000 to 2200mhz CPU I don't notice it at all.

yeah I can understand the issues you have after seeing it running on a slower machine, it was sitting at 95% with pangings sig on the screen.

Im trying to balance this in my head with my like for rewarding people for dedication and site commitment, I dont like the approach of the owner who is distant and doesnt seem to care less what happens on this site. alot of you guys are my friends so I like to let you see that your time and efforts here are rewarded. Nonetheless if more people come to me and say they are having problems on the site due to the flash then ill take steps to alter it, but right now only 2 or 3 people have came to me, and at least 20 times that have commented how much they love the freedom of the system as is. I will try and bend as much for everyone as I can but when it comes to it the majority will win out. I never even wanted sigs on the site at all initially (those of you who have been here since the start will remember that). Even when I gave in, I set some strict sizing rules which are still in place.

Right now a few staff and 15 or so gold members have flash signatures, flash avatars arent an option because it is more work for admins, we have set up a system wherein gold members have altered accounts at a server level to allow commands in the signature spacing to allow each user to alter his own sig from their own webspace, avatars with flash would need more hacking and right now priorities are in other departments.

I will monitor the situation and if anyone reading this hates the flash signatures, get in touch with me, the more people who dislike them the more I feel the need to look into it. As I say ive had very few complaints about this, im not ignoring the few who dont like them, but they can be turned off in your profiles for the time being.

Thanks guys.

I didn't realise Flash couldn't be used for the Avatars (I just assumed it was, as I do like yours )

Well i've gone and turned sigs off in the options (shame all the text disappears as well) but hey browsing, screen scrolling has improved a lot (and I can actually see what everyone is typing rather than a barage is flashing images).
Normal 600k broadband connection and AXP 2.3GHz CPU btw. But the Laptop 1GHz doesn't like 'em too much (which I still wouldn't consider slow especially for the office/Internet/programming it gets used for
But then this is a site for the 'teen overclockers/benchamarking crowd' who would consider it slow, lol.

Maybe if I was ten years younger I wouldn't mind them so much

This is actually the only site I visit regularly that has the large flashy sigs. I stay away from the others.
