Disable Sigs Pictures

all major boards do not have pictures in signatures.
Why do we have flash signatures. Isnt an avatar good enough?

do you really need to have a LITE HAXOR I AM SO COOL signature? and that times 10 times in one page... and flash avatars??? driverheaven gotta be the board with the most CPU usage and bandwith....

comon admin get some sense. functionality/speed is more important then a nice flash sig, right???

this board server is allready at its limit why push it uneccessary.

only mods should have picture sigs...

driverheaven used 40% cpu usage on average here on a 700Mhz machine.

It's like having a face to go with the name. Dont judge man. That's really not cool. You can also turn off the smiles aswell.

It's a matter of personality that make DH different from other techsites.

Dont ever contemplate a job in PR GJ.

Driverheaven is a colourful board, always has been, we have alot of talented people here, and I try to reward those who put in time and dedication to this site with gold medals, (20 in total), and they are allowed flash signatures. not everyone.

So what you are saying is basically disable all signatures etc? what about the other 1000s of people who love them? should we just ignore their opinions and go with what you say? you can TURN them OFF for yourself so you dont have to look at them. Also people having flash signatures wont slow the site down, most of them are hosted on other servers so it wont matter to the DH server. I have disabled things like picture attachments which other sites allow which affect server speed and we have the DH server tweaked to the hilt. You have to understand alot of the reasons for the site being slow is traffic, we have had alot of hits for dforces new tool, over 20k in fact so far and the reviews are popular and linked the net over. We need a dual cpu server basically and thats the aim shortly. 20 million hits a month and 3 terrabytes of data transfer on files, isnt easy to cover.

One thing which appears to be causing issues are the two flash ads at the top of the site, which I can look into, if its affecting people on slower machines.

yeah I suppose. I know here are some really good artists here (well good) I suppose I have to live with it. I thought the flash sigs are stored on server... if they are not well no problem for DH then

I can understand it annoys some people but in a community its always a compromise, when DH started I didnt allow anything, signatures included. I was asked so many times to let people "express themselves" we opened it up with strict sizing rules so it wouldnt affect the legibility of the forum, you know some sites have signatures and avatars 1024x768? . People here are rewarded with medals, extra options etc. I try and interact with people as much as possible and I have a great admin team who between them could cope with any problem that faced them.

The way it is now is generally working well and the majority of people like the system as is, im always here to listen to other views and if it irritates you, use your profile options to disable all you dont like, then your personal choices arent affected.

Basically our problems are, the server is underpowered for the demand on this site (that in connection with so many viruses hitting the server atm in email) - CPU only not the bandwidth (its T3 12,500k per second), and remember the DH server also hosts omegacorner, another massively hit site.

I will look into the flash based ads, and test them on other machines, to see just how they are affecting CPU time, the flash signatures shouldnt be a problem, there are only 5 or 6 hosted on DH server, and they are all staffs.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

Flash causing CPU usage should only affect Linux users as Macromedia software for linux is - putting it politely - is a steaming pile of faeces
