An Idea For Problem/Question Solving Threads

Okay I'm not certain how to explain this so bare with me.

For threads that request advice and/or help how about having in the subject a request Filled/Open add-on?

Here is an example from a recent thread in the Radeon Drivers forum.

Painkiller Omega 4.4 Drivers

What I have in mind is what I seen in other forums so it would look like this.

[Open] Painkiller Omega 4.4 Drivers

When the problem/question has been answered.

[Filled] Painkiller Omega 4.4 Drivers

I think it would cut down on the numerous threads with the same issue (not saying this particular thread is a repeat). There even could be guidelines set on what to put in the subject line. Instead of saying posting something like "Please Help!!!" they have to come up with a title which briefly describes their issue. People then could do a search for their issue, and maybe have an easier time of finding the solution if it has been discussed previously. When a person's issue has been resolved they can report back, and then the one of the mod's of that section can change if the issue has been filled or not.

i could see that beng very hard to implement.. or for mods to have to check this out... maybe a new user profile would have to be made so they could set this?

Hmm... well a "dirty" way of doing it could be to ada a special section to each sub forum for solved issues. The admin. and/or mod would then close that thread so no more posts could be added. However, this might involve quite a bit of cross linking to things being dicussed at present.

I do it as a long time mod in another forum, its a pain in the neck and takes a lot of mods/admins time. (normally a request for it to be closed. It also makes the actual titles harder to read when just browsing.

Unless it's implemented in the board it's very time consuming is what I'm saying. A nice Icon to show it's a open or answered thread (much like a closed/locked thread) along with a quick button is the best way I can think of. The user can then do it themselves (or mods can if the user is to lazy

)

But i've never seen it implemented.

Don't know if it's worth Zardon et al's time as they should either upgrade to VB3 first (it is free if they have a license afaik) then look for hacks. But I remeber something about going back to Invisionboard some months back if that's still happeneing.

It a good idea (very good) but you need the hacks OR mods willing to do it.

We won't be upgrading to vB3, we will be going to another forum package that Andrew and I develop.

This might be something I hack into it at some point.

Most excellent news.. i've been checking out DP website of an on for ages.... and i've seen the RC's moving up the line.... issues being resolved.. looking to be one hell of a solid package.......

ok.. i didn't see that over at the DP site... in the forum... ( i think someone had asked a question.. and the answer was to import to DP 1 and then upgrade to DP2)

I think that was for an older version of vBulliten.

But I would assume upgrading to DP2 from DP1 is easy enough anyway

We have a currently unreleased vB3 -> DP 2 importer, which is what we'll use (this site will be temporarily upgraded to vB3 in the process).
