Dividing the news?

As many people might have noticed.. Our site has grown into a major source of news. With great news posters~!

Have you guys thought about dividing the news section into "Entertainment" and "Technology"?

The idea I'm thinking of is similar to the one NeoWin has. They have their news divided into gamer's news and software news. Just a thought.

If this way of categorizing the news is used.. slightly older headlines won't get pushed off as quickly.

yeah its a possibility, and I quite like the idea - ill put it on the list and batter some ideas around at a later date. its getting a balance of a nice clean front page, with as much information as possible. its pretty well laid out at the minute but there is always room for improvement, appreciate the feedback.

IMHO, there are too many stickies... I know most of them are important news, but it would certainly be better if it could get somehow separated: sticky news and normal news - what do you think?

i will remove my guide by the end of this week unless people want it up still. its not as busy as it first was.

i have recommended a similar thing no_style in the past i was saying to divide the main page with DH news and regular news.

They have DH news which are the "stickies" and regular news..which is everything else.

i agree with that idea.

games news & patch's etc... do tend to get lost only to have others posting it in the games forum not being aware of the links being in the news archive.

so if game related stuff were separate to tech news they would probably be noticed more.and not just for dh members either.

i mean on the article sections, not headlines. the headlines are divided, not the articles you know what I mean

but thats a good idea into diff sections but its a bit much i would think, like lets say 4 categories gets a little mixed up

Remember guys the more we add the more cluttered it gets, its already 1024x768 minimum, we dont have unlimited space to work with.

-- also to post articles which the newsposters could direct to specific forums would require a code rewrite - not sure if jeff is up to that atm with running DP2 tests.

It sounds like a good idea...maybe DP2 could have something like this in it.

Dont be expecting a move to DP2 soon. I havent even been presented with a demo version of the current site database running on it, and nothing will be moved until im sure it will work flawlessly.

yea thats a more clear way of what I was trying to say. too many things on the site will mess the layout up. standard res is 1024x768 and the site has to keep it comfortable for all people.

yes im sure you do, but its me who will be giving the go-ahead whenever I feel its ready, anyway this thread is done, we will look into news and improving it at a later date if possible.
