Default Post DriverHeaven = CPU intensive

For the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my CPU runs @ 85-95% when I am here. I can dl @ 8-10% & surf other sites @ 3-8%.

I have CPUCool & it has a graph to monitor my CPU. Everytime I come here it shoots WAY up to the 85-95% area.

Why?

If I leave this site in a window & open another window to surf >

If I kill this window & surf >

Am I alone? Has anyone else experienced this?

What's up?

It may be the ads, you could try an ad blocker, although i dont recommend that, for obvious reasons

Thanks for the reply Cyborg,

I don't *think* it's the ads bcuz some other sites have at least as many.

This site does appear much more 3D (than others) & I wonder if it is the code for the graphics that is hitting my 'lil 500 Celery so hard?

Honestly all I can think of is the flash animation at the bottom of the page.

Yeah, cause even on my 800 TBird (A little more than your cele) I only hit about 9% CPU on any page on DH...

Thanks for your replies, guys.

This is just plain weird! Today I come in & I'm @ 65-75%.

9% huh, Cyborg. That is ~normal for me @ most sites too.

It's not an 'attack' thing cuz my firewall doesn't show any I/O of data.

Hmm, once I clicked on that smilie, the smilie flash animation froze & the CPU % dropped to ~62%. The DH on the bottom of the page is still active, but the ads froze too. 3-13% change, but still 50%+ too high.

I'm gonna surf some graphics intensive sites & see if I can mimic this.

Thanks,

Are you using Norton Internet Security? That firewall has a glitch which shoots up cpu usage.

JAV pls try this..
disable cpucool completely(make sure its not running in b/g) and use windows task manager/performance to check the cpu, see if you still get same results.
re: when compareing with others.. i'll try to come up with a reason later on.

Conan,

I'm running Sygate Personal Firewall. I stay away from the Symantec (Norton) & McAfee products. I've found they are system resource/memory hogs & do tend to be CPU intensive for no apparent reason.

Thanks for the thought tho'.

Mick,

Since I use CPUCool for oc'ing the CPU & it loads throught the registry: I'd have to edit the registry & lose my oc. Lowering the oc would also drive the usage % up. I DID close it in Windows (retaining the oc) & used 'Windows System Monitor' to check the % of this & other websites: same as CPUCOOL reports. Offline desktop idle will drop to 0% (according to both programs), also.

I went to the Harry Potter website (it has a flash movie intro) & CPU usage was 92-95%. I then went to a few of my kids other websites (all kindsa things moving/bouncing around!) & ran 75-90%.

I can live w/it, just kinda odd. I will say again that this site looks VERY nice & the 3D is much more evident here than elsewhere, to me. [69-72% right now]

C'ya 'round,

JAV
