Ads that make noise
Don't get me wrong, I support the site having ads- I think it is necessary and good for the site, but when they start making noise I have to block it. I'm sure the site owners probably didn't even know about it- so here's the screenshot.

I thought you ran an ad blocker like most other members appear to.
Does the ad speak on its own or do you have to interact with it "meaning do you need to type into the ad box" |

yeah- the thing just starts talking (loudly) on it's own.. when the page loads. I've seen the ad on some other sites a long time ago, but not in a while.. It seems to be gone now, replaced with a different one. Maybe the ad company made a mistake or something.. I know it's complicated. --------- OOps-- I just checked and now it's in the center of the front page! LOL- Sneaky ad company *it seems to come and go. |

Now it seems to be there almost everytime I open the main page now. Maybe you will be able to see it now.

some of you may not be aware but these ads are on rotating ad scripts which run from the ad server, they will rotate and display targeted ads within a certain IP range. ill try and proxy your IP later when I get home to see if I can even see the ad. ill pass on the information to the ad company, so dont delete that picture please. thanks.

I've been trying to experiment with FireFox lately- and with one of the plug-ins I got these addresses of the ads. I'm not sure if those addresses are different or not, but they were in different locations on the page- one on the front page, one in the forums.. http://banner.oddcast.com/banners/ba...nners%2F70%2F& http://banner.oddcast.com/banners/ba...nners%2F70%2F& If you right click on the links and hit properties you can see the whole thing, it's very very long.

On a side note, I downloaded adblock for FireFox just to block that ad- and it keeps coming back somehow, even getting around FireFox's Adblock somehow.

Why the hell do ads have noises anyway? It's just annoying as hell and everyone is encouraged to not click on the ad

The ads run on an ad server - i dont have access or control over what ads run within IP ranges i merely state I dont want spyware ads, offensive ads and now today any that have NOISES. ive emailed the ad company with a link to this so they will remove it shortly. Please also be aware if everyone blocks ads this site wll more than likely not continue to be operating this time next year - ive already noticed a drop in revenue due to more people probably blocking them. No one hates ads more than myself but until some wonderful ad hosting company comes up with free hosting for 2 terrabytes of data transfer a month with 10 gig+ of storage they will continue to run with the hope I can keep this site alive. |

I got around the problem temporarily by blocking oddcast's IP range (206.17.133.128-206.17.133.255) in the advanced rules in my firewall.
However after doing that -in FireFox in the status bar I get itxt.vibrantmedia.com and that stays in there for a long time and the page won't quit loading even though it looks like it is fully loaded... I intent to keep oddcast's Ip range in my firewall, but I imagine after the ad goes away, the vibrantmedia problem will go away.. Just to experiment I blocked vibrantmedia's IP (itxt.vibrantmedia.com) and the front page loads halfway and gets stuck for a very long time.. all the blocked vibrantmedia logs are outgoing too- strange since intelliTXT isn't enabled. I guess you have to allow it to load the front page even if it's disabled.

as i see on the pic it's the iframe one above the waterchill ads?
if you are having prob with the ads try not to display it 'temporarily', i don't think you need to block those ips. if it's the one, and you are using mozila firefox, try creating a .css file and name it "userContent.css" then write below line to it... *[width="468"][height="60"] {display: none; visibility: hidden; } then place the file into your mozilla firefox's profile-directory/chrome/ (not the one in the program directory) the location of the "chrome" folder of your profile would be something like this.. \Documents and Settings\< user id >\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxx\chrome then restart the firefox and see if the above line can hide the iframe and the ads. this's for temporarily since you don't want to remove the ads window at all time, we need it for supporting this site... so you can remove the "userContent.css" at anytime. |
