bonzi?

Just wondered what this was? When I logged on with FireFox today I get this thing- I clicked cancel, but I was wondering if anyone knows what it was? I'm running Spywareblaster/ad-aware/sSpybot so I don't think I have anything weird on my machine.. I'm still checking, I'll post back if I find anything after scanning

EDIT

I checked and no spyware- hmm, never seen anything like that pop up before...

Since years ago, things may have changed, I have avoided the "bonzi buddie". For me it took system resources away and caused random crashes. I've avoided it since. It was a little "creature" that lived on the desktop - like a little pet...

NO- the ads aren't because I need a format- Other people saw them- read Zardon's post about IP based targeted ads..

When I logged on to DH- that FireFox notification popped up- My PC is cleaner than 99.999% of the worlds including most people's on DH. There are some people here that don't even run Adaware or Spybot- I have no Spyware installed, I know what bonzi buddy is too, and I don't have it. I run a FireWall and know everytime something want's to access the internet- if I had spyware I'd know it.

One of the ads probably tried to put a cookie on my machine, because I have seen harmless "bonzi" tracking cookies being removed by Adaware.. It's not the same as having bonzi installed on your system.
99% of tracking cookies never even get put on my machine because of Spywareblaster.

The ads on DH have gotten more invasive with making noise and slowing page loading (IntelliTXT) in the past few months, it has nothing to do with my machine. I'm just reporting crap that happens so people know about it. Everything I have reported so far has been seen by other people. Don't blame me for every ad issue I report. It has nothing to do with my freaking windows install.

hey relax we are all friends here.

I always listen to what you say BWX and I have reported every issue you have told me about over the last months - in fact I thank you for your dilgence and it appears you are maybe one of the unlucky few in a certain ip range who gets these ads, because most of us never see them.

Ok regarding problem ads, most of them are resolved within a week right? You have to understand I dont have direct control over the ad server so the odd campaign ad will slip into the rotation which I or you dont want.

So far ive told the ad company, no gator, no spyware, no sound ads (from this week), and no offensive material. As I said while the occasional ad slips past this ... they havent been too bad, as for intellitxt well we have altered some settings which seem to giving less problems atm, but we can still work with it if its annoying. Intellitxt isnt a part of my ad company either so thats a seperate issue.

This current issue ive received an immediate response stating my ad company dont even deal with this client so it cant possibly be their fault, thats the first time ive heard them say that, they normally hold their hands up and say "yes, oops, ok ive removed it".

So, here is how we proceed, as I dont doubt you, but I havent seen it and I have to take my ad companies word on their ethics (they are one of the top ad companies on the internet so I reckon they arent to bad).

Run adaware and follow our anti spyware guide to make sure your machine is , from this point clean. for a testing period only visit very well known sites to ensure no rogue script is hiting your machine. play around with dh for a day or two and the moment the ad comes up again (if it does, hit screenprint and email me it to zardon@driverheaven.net ). then and hopefully by this stage someone else has seen it here, I can return to the ad company with screengrabs, user IPS and times.

Ok? hopefully this covers all bases. I do listen to you and I respect you as a member on this site, your opinion is important.

I know the ad company does things that sometimes is out of anyone's control, and that some people see and other's don't--- that's why I report things I see like that.

I also have been fighting Spyware for 6 years and have read that article.

I also haven't seen that thing (above) before or since- so it may have been a one time thing that maybe doesn't have anything to do with DH. I thought I would report it just in case. I appreciate the remarks.

if you're not sure or you like to see if this's caused by cookie,
then don't let any site set cookie on your system and then remove it after,
control over all the cookies in the first place.

for mozilla firefox, go to tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies, then check "Enable cookie" and "Ask for each cookie",

when you visit any site you will see the "Confirm setting cookie" dialog box,
then you can choose either to Allow or to Deny any site that wants to set cookie on your system, you can also check the option "Use my choice for all cookies from this site" for the site you want saved it. try that and you'll control over all the cookies and see.
