Potential to increase the number of front page items.

Since we have a few more active newsposters now, how about increasing the number of items on the front page from current of 12 to something more? Not all users look at the news archive section on the left, and may miss the piece of information that are interested in, since it has been already gone into archives or even outside of the archived section.

I understand, this may put more load on the server, but what do you think? How possible or feasible is it?

Right now, it might hurt some people with front page loads especially on slower lines. Its not really needed, we just have a lot of site news, which is making the ordinary news look less (they work on a tag principal).

As allan says it's actually set at 23 items, which are shared between articles and site news, so if we only had 3 site news we'd have 20 news articles. In a few days time the site news will probably be moved off front page and more articles will display etc.

Hmm, my biggest beef with the front page news is that everything is divided in two sections vertically which makes navigation a hassle. For example, site news is updated once in a while with new DH reviews and whatnot while the "global" news is updated a dozen times a day but you have to scroll doooooown to read the headlines.

Just a 2c.

No you dont.

You can click the first news story in the ordinary news, it will take you to the top of that section. they are ALL hotlinks.

I think he means on his resolution he has to scroll down past the banners to see the headlines.

While we're at it: I don't like the Flash menu. Can't open tabs from that one (as I used to).
Not a big deal though...

How about a forum link at the bottom, to save scrolling back to the top (or a hoverbar that stays visible) ... you know me, HATE flash, LOVE DHTML

did you see the site bar at the top of page? The one that has:
Profile | Members | Messages | Search | Forum | Home

It's all clickable and works with tabs

Plus DHTML may be a pain to make it working cross-browser. Especially for some older versions.

I would suggest cutting down a few of the DH "stickied" posts and increasing the news threads in number - maybe to 16?

news sometimes flies in so quick that you do end up missing some

The stickied posts vary depending on the site articles and reviews. The stickied news and ordinary site news work "together". They both pool from the same top limit number. You dont miss news if you go into the news forum.

Thanks for the feedback guys but its not changing.
