idea to stop spam threads
to stop threads like these:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/off-topic-forum/75050-free-gateway-3200s-desktop-computer.html and http://www.hardwareheaven.com/off-topic-forum/75048-free-toshiba-notebook-computer.html can you implement a system where the first "New Thread Post" must be reviewed by a mod and until that has been accepted or declined no further "new threads" can be created. would stop events like the abopve and the million otherthat keep appearing happening thanks nana |

Hmm...only problem with that is it would create a back log of messages that would need be checked. Which in turn wouldn't allow for maintenance of the forum since mods would be spending most of their time checking new threads. There is no set number of mods/admins on the board at one time either.

This has been discussed and to be fair us mods do not have the time to watch all posts (even if it is just the first post) before they go up into the forums.
We hope we are fast enough to deal with this and do welcome any member to inform a mod (preferably super mod or admin) as we are the only ones with the ability to ban these ashats. just simply pm the mod (in the respective froum) who is online at the time, this will be the easiest way. all these scam posters are instantly banned, but many do get around it by using proxies and email addresses to register with which have been acquired by the idiots who actually think these work....they are just simply setup to gain information for improper use. You simply DO NOT get anything of any value for free. Last edited by MIG-31; May 17, 2005 at 05:17 PM. |

One of my moderators already asked me this on your behalf and I replied thinking it would get back to you........ apparently not.
This is an unusable method. why? We get maybe 5-10 of these spam threads a week, and literally hundreds of new posts from members in the same period of time. It would give the mods vastly more work and a lot of this work would fall on the administration team who are busy enough. I dont see how this issue is affecting most users on the site, we get them pretty quick. |

I say we go on the offensive... post the IP addresses of Spammers and let some of your more technically inclined users do the rest...

nice idea grendle! ...nevermind its completely illegal
Actually cant you set up a thing where you ban certain words for the first post? Like say that first posts cannot use the word "free" naw actually scratch that, that wouldnt work right. grrr I guess it isnt really that big of a problem. its like a misquito bite really.
