ANNOUNCEMENT: site slowdown in the last 24 hours.

Guys the last few days on Driverheaven the traffic has been incredible, due to the release of omegadrives last set. Omegadrives site is hosted on the server along with his sets, and in one 20 hour period we had over 40 gig of downloads with peaks of 15,000 hits a minute in total on the site.

There has also been a problem with the time warner pipe and our server administrator Shaith was up for 16 hours battling to keep things ticking over. Its been a mixture of these factors attributing to recent performance issues. The Vbulletin software loads are very low, so the software is running fine, its just the sheer amount of downloading that has been killing us.

I do apologise for the recent slowness of the site but it will improve so please bear with us.

As the site has been terribly slow, I've also noticed that the little icon indicators in front of the threads aren't showing up, too. Dyre Straits

control refresh (to get direct from the server) will fix that, it happened to me earlier as well.

Doing my best to keep the site available to you, boys and girls, but frankly nobody expected the response to be that substantial.

Official figures for the past 24 hours put traffic levels at a staggering:

1044566 hits!

Considering that's being handled by a single server (and the type of server handling it), she's not doing too bad at all.

This is the first reply I have been able to make for many hours- Hope you guys can stay on top of things. Every time I try to reply to a post, I get the dreaded page not found page and then i continue to get it when I try to come to the site in any capacity. It just won't load, I am very suprised I was able to post this one to tell you the truth. Well, good luck, i hope everything works out for you guys.

this is strange- Just after the last post I was searching arounfd the forums and Boom, no more DriverHeaven for me until now- Now it is the fastest site on the net. Hmmmm- just odd.

Are a vast majority of those 1044566 hits part of the dos attack? I mean, how many people are browsing the site right now?

I am confused, first I hear something on the front page about, --Wow, what a great response we are getting-- and then the site crashes and I hear something about a DOS attack. It must really suck to have some Idiots try to bring down the site for no reason.
How long has this site been around? Are there enemies that would benifit from driver heaven going down? It just doesn't make much sense at all. It seems like there would be safeguards against that sort of thing. I guess I don't know enough about web-servers to fully understand it. Is the website base in the US? Is there anything us members can do to help?
