Unicode for the Forums?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Unicode posts are supported? I asked cyborg about Unicode-supported sigs a very short while ago, which I know either require a special command/don't work, but now I'm just wondering in general if we can post in Unicode. If we can't, does the forum have the capacity to move to support Unicode, and will it happen if it can?

The Japanese for "Student" (transliterates as gaku-sei) should be below if Unicode works.

学生

Interesting, it does appear in Mozilla 1.2, but not perfectly - its insanely tiny, and I have to zoom up a lot to see the characters at an acceptable size. I set the size to "Huge" (size=4) while posting...

ToshiroOC

Lets try this again:
Size 1:
学生
Size 2:
学生
Size 3:
学生
Size 4:
学生
No sizing information:
学生

Lets try something excessive and see if it works:
Size 10:
学生
Size 20:
学生
Size 50:
学生
Size 75:
学生

I would assume that Unicode does work (at least for Mozilla 1.2) with posting, and though it needs size to be set much beyond normal, it works fine. Now, lets wonder about the sigs... Anyone have some feedback on this? I'll check it tommorow, bed time for me, its 0300 PST...

EDIT: Opera 7 doesn't format correctly and the characters overlap the line above them a bit. Both IE6 and Opera 7 brutally mangle the beautiful font for the characters that I see in Mozilla, which bugs me, but IE6 seems to work fine with the Unicode...

I see question marks when i view it in Mozilla 1.2b, however, the code is being preserved in the document source, so i have a feeling it may be something you are doing wrong...

you may need to actually insert the character instead of using &...;

It may also have something to do with the font we are using on the site, try using the [font=blah] tag...

I just realized that I have the Japanese/Chinese addin installed for windows, and Mozilla appears to be using the same font that Windows functions use when using Unicode. The &... stuff is what happens when the Unicode characters are displayed with ASCII characters - when I pasted them into the text box initially I saw the characters, but when I clicked on preview then back they reverted to the ASCII representations of the same characters. I posted anyway and it displayed fine, so my guess was that the ASCII with the & and the characters were interchangeable, and for some reason the textbox+back button simply changed between the two.

http://www.simtel.net/pub/dl/53015.shtml

This is a link to a browser specifically intended for viewing Asian pages (originator: NJstar.com), its free software/demo, so if you can't see the characters and want to this should probably work.
