Popup

I think "Adrotator" has put a "You might have spyware" ad on DH.

I thought they had made these "system spoof" ads illegal?

Anyway, they bug.

Yeah I saw a couple earlier- if froze DH completely (IE6) and then a full screen pop up came up, and DH went completely away- then another smaller pop-up came up. Then I exited out of everything thinking it was another website that did it.

After I opened up another website altogether w/o DH being up at all- it happened again but only the smaller pop up.. That was weird.

Anyway.. after that I closed all windows again, rebooted, came to DH and only the small one popped up. I was like- WTF?

Then I ran adaware and it found absolutely no ad cookies at all (I run it quite often so all the tracking cookies were gone)..

I then ran SpywareBlaster and it got an update, then I enabled all protection for all the bad sites. I opened up DH and a bunch of other sites with no problems at all.

I think SpywareBlaster update blocks the "new" rouge ad. I noticed a new ad at the bottom of DH as this all was happening..

It is a bigger than normal ad, but I don;t block any banner ads and they have been behaving themselves lately. it would have to happen again for me to be sure the new ad is what caused all the drama.

If anyone needs a screenshot of that one just in case I can make one.

The scenario that B-Dub described is exactly what I saw this morning...a full screen popup that made the whole Windows Explorer interface hiccup (y'know, like when all the desktop icons & task bar refresh?). It was not drawn like my explorer windows either, it was like a different theme was applied.

Anyway, like BWX, I ran a spyware scan and got nothing. It was quite a shock to see my pristine rig act like that!

K, well the new one that started a rotation when I had all those pop-ups was below in the pics.. there was also an alienware ad in that same spot and maybe another one.

I never got a chance to take a pick of the actual pop-up, if that happens again I will definitely do it. I think spywareblaster is blocking them now or else it was just a freak one time thing...

Aha.. See- I refreshed again and the ad is blocked by spywareblaster- It shows a blank space-

So maybe one of those ads in that spot is rotating in a bad one. but then again, who knows. If no one else complains about that- maybe it was a one time thing that got taken care of already at the source.

Hey I went through my history and found the pop up- I also found the bad one- but now it is in the restricted sites so I cannot show the actual ad- but the address is still in the history- will have screens in a few minutes.

I think that is the bad one- be carefull going to that link:

http://www.swbtk.net/def/45/5006.html <-- that one popped up I think (it is restricted now in IE after Spywareblaster update)

http://empnads.com/servlet/ajrotator.../vh?z=enternet <-that is the address to one of them

And that was in the mix there somewhere..

Also the ads on the bottom I took a screenshot of- it might be nothing.. it might be one of those in the rotation causing probs.. I'm not sure how it works.

BTW everything is fine now..

and what is the popunder (up) doing? that one you just posted BWX comes up on my machine occasionally and does nothing just close it?

the ad cdsdontburn also looks fine, is it doing something I cant see?

Right now ive really nothing to show the ad company, just a series of ads which all look normal.....

Yeah I don't know either. Maybe it fixed itself.
The one that I think locked my IE for a sec was this one:

http://www.inqwire.com/homepage.prec...nlpt=yes&cb=70

But it is hard to say where it came from..
As long as it is fixed and doesn't get anyone else, it must be fixed.. Those things can be sneaky. Maybe it was a one time thing and we both just happened to see it. That is what it is sounding like at this point.

There is an ATI support forum section on driverheaven, post your question in there and the members will help, this is the site feedback forum and this thread is about a popup. As you might guess this isnt the ideal place to ask about ATI cards and drivers.

Ill close this thread, anyone else experiences problems with ads, open a new thread.

I put that ad up a few weeks ago, as noted by yourself it's hardly noticable yet serves a great purpose in helping with revenue for the funding of the site.
