You know when a German tech site has got hold of a big story or review - it publishes an English-language version. Germany's TecChannel has got a biggie: the first benchmarks of AMD's upcoming 64-bit ClawHammer desktop CPU gained after running a prototype machine on the AMD Computex booth in Taiwan through its paces for an hour. There are more caveats than a lawyer's letter. The software used for testing was 32-bit; it's a prototype; the chip may have been locked at 800MHz, so a direct comparison should only be made with an 800MHz Athlon etcetera. etcetera. But the rig is stable, the ClawHammer performs up to 40 per cent faster than an Athlon running at the same clock rate. And the chip is cool - not even hand-hot in operation. Also, TecChannel reckons that AMD is being too cautious at locking ClawHammer at 800MHz. At Computex rumours were afloat that the clock rate will even be 1.6 GHz at the launching. Should this really come true and should Intel really cope with the aimed at 3 GHz, then AMD has to do much awareness training in regard of its model number -3400+ rumours say. The launching of AMD's first complete design in three years time seems to become a marketing problem much more than a technical problem - our first beats on the Hammer drum have been successful by all means. http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/937/index.html |

Intel spends more on advertising than AMD makes in a given year.

and they (intel) still make overpriced lameass products. sorry state of affairs isnt it. they make me sick the amount of money they WASTE every year on advertising. they really need to start spending it on DEVELOPMENT, i.e. making a good processor. not stupid guys prancing around in suits dancing to crappy tunes. at least we all know where their priorities lie (well the more intelligent of us do anyway, present company excluded). AMD dont need to spend the gross annual income of a small country on advertising, their products sell themselves, not tits in gawdy coloured engineering suits. what do intel do to sell their products? benchmarks? chip architecture details on television advertising? no, just fags in suits and stupid sound effects. great. welcome to the new millenium. welcome to progress. Intels new theme tune should be the Rolling Stones, "cant get no satisfaction", its fast paced so those engineers could dance well to it, as they attempt to get their new processors to 10 gig to beat a 1.9ghz AMD XP chip. still they make alot of money. but then again Kylie Minogue sells alot of records. its all marketing and image, and of course the intelligence of the average consumer being lower than a garden slug plays a major part .. if Intel didnt spend the amount of money they currently do to counterbalance substandard products, AMD would own the whole market. its only a matter of time anyway. even stupid people someday realise the error of their ways. anyone want to flame me. take it to MY flaming section in this forum, ill be happy to toast you all. I own it anyway

Haha, somebody is eager to prove himself. Just stating the facts, Billy-boy. 'Twasn't a flame thread when I posted.
I think the only reason Intel has any market share at all right now is because of marketing, but I hate it so much that you and I are the same side. Dumbfucks like you give true AMD fans a bad name. Quote:

I'm a real fan, Billy. You just claim to support AMD because your illiterate friends told you, through their shit-stained teeth, that "they herd that ay-em-dee iz a bitter deal." You are the lowest form of PC user -- you uninformed purple-pissing bandwagon kiddie.
You own the Flaming forum? Haha, whatever. That's why you can never open your mouth without getting burned to a crisp by every single DriverHeaven member, right? The only thing you are 'round here, Billy, is everyone's little whipping boy. |

But don't go away, Billy. This place wouldn't be the same without your foul stench. We'll tire of you eventually -- but for the time being, I think everyone gets a kick out of setting your stupid ass ablaze. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Those benchmarks are fake as far as i'm concerned. Not until i see the real thing then i'd give a damn.

http://www.zive.cz/H/PCtuning/AR.asp...=4&EXPS=&EXPA= That graph is from a offical AMD presentation extrapolating current CPU speeds, the original leak appeared on the Czech site showing some of the presentation slides...its for real baby.

Through some amazing anomaly the testers managed to get scores all rounded to a nice multiple of ten. I wish I could find out their amazing testing techniques so that I could get my machine to get exactly 8100 3dmarks and exactly 2400 for memory bandwidth in Sisoft Sandra!
God, how can even an AMD user believe these are "true, honest to god benchmark scores?" I'm sure if Intel released the same picture, except with prescott at 1500 points you would all relentlessly bash the results as "projected" and intel-biased. Poop. |
