Default Post Lol...why Intel? I'll tell you...

It's really quite simple why big business buys intel.

The story goes like this... This friday... me (lowly tech), my boss and another tech... were sitting around. My boss needed to order a new vidcard with dual out... for a projector in one of the conference rooms...so he goes online and finds a GF4MX. So i (the GF4MX hater that i am)(nothing against the ti's though really)... walk up and say something along the lines of "you know you could probably find something better". So we start discussing the merits of various graphics cards while trying to find some deals online. We eventually settle on one of the Radeon 7000's (VE)... the only one with a dvi to vga converter .

In the end, it turns out, we saved the company 20$!!!! The irony of it is that the company paid the three of us more for our time than we saved on the card. !!!!

Thats why big business buys whatever they see first...e.g. intel!!!!

LOL. cya

Yeti, I would have totally went for a Matrox card instead of an ATi one. That doesn't make much sense.

UberLord, AMD stocks dropped almost 10% on Friday, due to an Intel warning (Intel dropped close to 20%). Most people are fucking morons -- time and time again, you'll see that when Intel drops, so does AMD. It's cause people aren't aware that the two companies are different -- even though their business plans are polar opposites.

If anyone here has some money to throw around, I'd definitely reccommend buying AMD on Monday. While investor ignorance still abounds, analysts seem like they are beginning to get a clue. At any rate, Intel's warnings were based on weak performance in Europe. AMD has a very strong presence in Europe (for example, in Germany, AMD has the majority of the market share, I believe). What I'm saying is this: AMD dropped. AMD dropped because Intel dropped. That is the only reason -- AMD did not drop because of any fault of its own. Buy while it's cheap. If it doesn't recover quick, it will definitely recover by the end of the year.

Well, yeah... Matrox is truly good... i have an old mystique in my PI... its stood the test of time quite well. We just couldn't find any that were cheaper than the Radeon... you know?

But anyway ... that was my rant.

You are a fucking moron, having lived in germany, and having been involved with many, many people, and many different families and businesses, I know personally that the only AMD processors that are sold are to the 20% market share of enthusiasts. EVERY business I ever saw was running P3s, EVERY family with limited tech knowledge was using either a Celeron or P3, my friends' computers all used P3s (I was there one year ago, hence the P3age), AMD machines were advertised with usually only durons for cheap prices, and I know for a fact that most of the other computers around were 5 year old pentium mmx machines.

I hate people who just throw out claims, then dismiss their own claims with an "oh, well, at least my brilliant intuition tells me I could possibly be right"

Agh! Agh!

Similarly, I hate people who make broad, blanket statements about an entire country just because they happened to live there. I'm sure you did in-depth economic studies. And I'll bet you met every family in Germany, isn't that right? Lamer.

I will, however, apologize for my statement. I remember hearing something like that. I must have been thinking Japan. Which isn't to say AMD's market share isn't strong in Europe; I still maintain that. At any rate, it wasn't a firm statement (hence the "I believe"), but here are some solid facts (Q3 2001):

United States - 40% of the small business PC market
Japan - 54% of the home desktop PC market
Western Europe - 49% of home desktop PC market
United States - 27% of overall desktop PCs
United States - 33% of government PCs
United States - 18% of education market
