Default Post the word is "online" you friggin moron!

Ever hear a person talk about making an online purchase, but when they describe it, they end up saying something like "I bought that DVD-ROM offline and saved $20".

No.. you didn't buy it offline, you bought it online. If you bought it offline, that means you bought it when you weren't online, which is untrue. If you want to use the word "off", say you bought it "off the Internet", or something like that. That's so irritating...

Anyway, um, I just felt like posting my rant. I'll leave now.

LOL... I must admit I'm guilty in doing this as well. I've always wondered about this myself.

threads like this kinda put me in mind of stories you hear from company techs on customer support getting telephone calls from inept customers.

things like, "can someone come and replace my coffee cup holder?" ... eventually only to find out that the customer is meaning their CD drive tray.

and NO I did read that, im serious.

.... what about the guy that cut off the back of his computer with a chainsaw to solder some extra memory into on of the banks and complained that he had troubles getting the computer open and that it wouldn't start after installation or even when he removed the ram later...

Have you seen that insurance AD with 2 old ladies and one of them get her stereo nicked? Well funny as she actually thinks the CD tray IS a cup holder

I'll bet you'll start to notice it now.

My biggest pronounciation pet peeve (I work at a computer shop) is PCMCIA. Nobody can say this properly. It's like:

"Hey, do you guys have PCMIA modems?" or "PMIA." Sometimes I'll correct them, sometimes I'll say I don't know what that is. Look, if you can't say P-C-M-C-I-A, we invented an easier way to say it, just for you! "PC Card."

A close second would have to be everyone apparent inability to recall the plural form of "mouse" -- which is "mice," not "mouses."

Anyone else noticed that more peeps are saying "Boxen" instead of "Boxes" in reference to many computers?

Yeah, I'm relatively sure that's something Slashdotters started. Frankly, I think it's lame. Box's plural form has been well-established for many, many, many years now.

People can change English through misuse, though. Think of virus, whose plural form should be "virii." So many people say "viruses" that it's become acceptable!

LAME!

Well, while on the subject of mispronunciations and whatnot, another annoyance of mine is the ever popular "ww dot" whatever. It's easy to type www, but when people say it out loud, I guess three w's is just too much for them to handle.
