Pisses me off that HP/Compaq don't give XP drivers!

Goddamn it makes me angry. Gotta play hunt the driver for a brand new laptop I bought. RIDICULOUS.

In the end I got it all working, but what a waste of time. And for what? VISTA SUCKS. Post the goddamn XP drivers on your support pages!!!!

Which notebook manufacturer does that? Because I am going to buy all my gear from them!

Come on Mousey! Be fair! he is right, when you buy a certain laptop with X OS installed you are right to expect them to have drivers to install OS F. I mean, it makes perfectly good sense. Almost as good as checking their website before you buy it to check that indeed they have drivers for OS F.

I think he is being very reasonable being upset with HP/Compaq.

didn't I make a thread last year about how people need to stop bitching about Vista and remember what they did when XP came out in 2001? Bitched then too... businesses didn't really start using XP till 2004-2005 and where losers were still going "I AM GOING TO USE 2000 BECAUSE IT ROXORS LESS RAM USAGE". Same losers using XP now.

but your driver problem, find out the part you need drivers for and check the manufacturer of that part's driver. Most everything in these laptops are not built by HP (ie chipset, hard drives, video cards). What hardware is it for?

you could always boot up into windows, run CPU-Z, GPU-Z, or Everest, find out what kinda crap you have, and go directly to those manufacturers for the drivers of that product.

it's not that hard IMO.

lol, yea. i'm just providing methods of the "easy way out".

as for myself and vista, i don't have enough knowledge of the OS itself to give an opinion on it. i've used it myself several times but don't have it installed on any of my machines. and from what i've come to learn of the OS, it has EVERYTHING winXP has and more. however, all the same features have either been renamed to something else, or moved to a different location.

i already have a couple different versions of the OS (buisness and ultimate) ready to be installed when i build my next machine . the only thing that i really need to get used to vista is the networking. it has so many more new options as opposed to winXP.
