Default Post Everquest Makes Me Sad

EQ makes me so very sad; I want to curl up into a ball and fade away into nothingness.

Firstly, the software appears to be either very bloated or overly intense; I care not which. So often I get someone that comes into my store to upgrade his PC just so he can play EQ a little better. I have seen people drop $400 before.

Then there is the practice of camping, as I believe it was called. I have a few acquaintances that are avid EQ players and they've described this activity to me. Basically, some magical items can only be had by slaying certain creatures. And these creatures sometimes only spawn once a day, or once a week. So people will gather around this area that the Mystical Dragon of Yeong Yang spawns and --get this-- wait. This to me sounds like a collassal waste of time. You're going to WAIT until this dragon spawns? You're going to wait a DAY?

One day I was sitting at work and somebody called me and said this, "Hey, I'm only around here for a few weeks and I don't have my PC with me -- is there any place I can play EverQuest?" Are you serious?

I am thoroughly drained of hope. What is it about this game, these lines of code, that turns a man's soul into a barren desert of despair and desperation? Such emptiness these piteous creatures must feel. I am reminded of a poem by Stephen Crane, and I'd like to share it with you all.

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter," he answered;
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."

This overly emotional and ridiculous post brought to you by, as many of my posts are, extreme workplace boredum.

Ok as FORMER Avid EQ player (friend still heavly plays it ) Most find out the time of slaying and then come back 2 hours before or so or (get this) they leave a level one char of theirs there (with a different computer) so they can claim "camping rights" and come and slay it with their main. Most of the time its a "guild camp" where say there is like 60 people to a guild from around the world....there'salways got to be someone on so they just hang around or "raid the zone" and clear everything.

BTW eq sucks monkey balls.

according to surveys alot of women play this game. which considering the fact you walk around, shopping, dressing up and talking for 24 hours a day, with the odd, extremely poorly crafted fight, is quite understandable.

A spammer?

Actually Judas, your level of posting has really dropped off - spending more time in RL now?

I played Everquest. It eventually came to the point of either having the game or my wife and I begruggingly chose the latter. I'm glad I did, that game once your out of it really does seem pointless. I have a friend that I got to start playing when it came out and he still plays it EVERYDAY. What's it been now 2 almost 3 years? It's the worst thing I've ever done for him. I tell him that everytime I see him, which isn't much.

I grew up in Estevan Sask. Well just outside of it anyway. I know all about farming. The winter months are great though, that's were I spent all my time learning how to fix cars.

winter is a good break...but you still have animals to carry...and going without sleep for 4 days sucks because of the calfing....oh, and all about blow out the binyard and hauling the grain away......and yet...we aren't making a profit while the government is saying

"you give me a dollar...i'll give you a dollar.... sound good....thought so"
"oh wait, you can't if us a dollar...well, i can only give you 1/4 cent then since you won't give me anything.... by the way, that all you get for the day" sad......the number of people that don't have a clue that without farmers...they are as good as dead.....
