Default Post ATI users Unite !!

I was reading Tom Pabsts ENGLISH review of the Parhelia when I came across this:
Quote:
In Part II, we'll be looking at the Parhelia's image quality and its performance at maximum quality, with a comparison to an NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti4600. Here, we won't be including ATI's Radeon 8500, because its anisotropic filtering, which involves various driver tricks, is somewhat controversial and would make a comparison unnecessarily complicated.
Link Here
I am stunned why they would leave out the Radeon 8500's strongest feature because ATI chose adaptive bilinear anisotropic filtering that results in minimal perfomance hit yet delivers excellent IQ

Let the flames begin !!

Come on you gotta admit that is pathetic, If you apply this type of thinking throughout, then Matrox FAA cannot possibly be compared to NV FSAA (whether performance or IQ-wise) because they are such different implentations.

What you are left with is an IQ review focusing on default rendering -- no aniso, no AA. Then why bother reviewing IQ at all?

Nobody does Anisotropic the same ...

i'm not saying he's not biased, i'm saying his bias is old news.

that and i'm pretty sure he's had enough of the nvidiots complaining when the 8500 beats the 4600 in anisotropic speed.

Default Post It might be old, but..

...it's still pretty cheesy. Let him post any comments or disclaimers he likes about the results and his interpretation of 'em, but let the f-ing numbers speak for themselves and bench it against both of the current top manufacturers cards! I usually like Tom, but I don't like how he excludes the 8500 in that test.

Translation

We won't be running the 8500 in this test because its gonna make every other card look like a turtle in comparison to the hare. Also, we like to get free nVidia hardware

Yes, upgrading toms brain to a ClawHammer would do him good --- LOL j/k

But you have to realize he's not the one who does this stuff anymore. There is a giant staff of writers on 3 continents reviewing stuff. Tom was the creator... and i'm sure he's filthy rich by now, but you rarely ever get articles these days that were actually written by him... check the author name on the right hand side...

In the end, it seems to work out: The Celeron Willamette 1.7 GHz is currently the fastest budget CPU. At $83, it is even slightly cheaper than AMD's Duron 1300 ($84).
Another mistake at THG... the one i hate most...

do a search on pricewatch for "Celeron 1.7" - 80$
Duron 1300- 56$
Athlon XP 1800- 85$

Does the similarly priced Athlon XP 1800 (palomino core) outperform the 1.7 Celeron? HELL YES!

And you wonder why i can't afford intel?....(gotta fix that hard drive....)

Default Post Ooops, forgot that ByteMe is here now....

...and I changed my mind and decided that it's ok that they skipped the 8500 in that test since ATI sucks donkey-balls anyways....
