So my wife and I decided to take advantage of the first warm day in a while and take our 10 month old son to the park, plus we figured it would be good to get some exercise after being shacked up in the apartment for 4 months.

Damn winter.

When we get there, the son is shining, the birds are...well, it's still too cold for them but it seems like everybody else in the city had the same idea. The place is crawling with children.

After scouting out what is free we settle on one of those rocking horses that are mounted on a central spring so I carefully put my son on it and hang onto his hands. While my wife digs into the diaper bag for the camera a little boy, probably no more than a year and half walks over. We figured he was coming over to say hello.

BAM!

The kid threw two fists full of small rocks into my son's face. I also had a nice little shower but to hell with me. My first response is to check my son. Luckily he is fine but my wife and I are left standing there stunned partially by the fact that this just happened but more by the fact that this other child's parents or grand parents did not do a damned thing other than tell him "that wasn't very nice" followed by "come over and say you're sorry", which did not happen.

If my son had done this the first thing out of my mouth would have been half a dozen apologies to the parents and to the child. The second thing we would have done is pack up and go home immediately to deal with what he just did.

The little hellion should not have done it but kids do strange things. Whatever. What pissed me off is that there was no apology from the parents and they did not make the kid come over. They did not even bother to check if my son was hurt. That kid got away with playground murder at the expense of an infant. My infant.

Way to lead by example.

That child is going to grow up pulling stunts like this because there are no consequences and people like my son will be the one to have to put up with this bullshit because those types of parents are asleep at the parenting wheel.

There was a comedian who said something along the lines of you need to pass a test to get a driver's license and you need to pass exams in school but any idiot and have a child.

That other family just proved it.

But seriously, kids are taught that this kind of stuff is okay, just by the parents reaction. They probably though it was "cute" that their kid was so tough..... "Good, he gonna be a fighter, that one!" He probably got ice cream on the way home too......

Glad your kid is okay..... a face full of rocks could have been much worse.

To be honest i would've gone over and demanded an apology from the parents and tell them to excercise some discipline, Then see how it goes.

That's an absolutely horrific story is that, Teach your son not to take shit off anybody. I was never taught that and i spent the best part of about... 8 years of education being bullied and attacked when i got to secondary/high school.

And i'm not saying the parents or the grand parents doing it, here anyone that would have seen that happen would have stepped in and done the paddling in place of the parents.

But unfortunately parents have gotten to the point where grounding is their "fix" which isn't doing the job at all anymore

There is a difference between "BEATING" your children where blood and bruses occur and properly disaplining your children. A tanned ass is fine.

And people wonder why kids are starting to do the things they are doing...

I mean for the most part, today most people would frown on someone catching a child that is being horrible and tanning their ass or shit even giving them a stern talking to, the parents go nuts over someone doing it cause they emediately think something idiotic... not sure what yet...

I've personally given some kids shit, and been yelled at by parents for doing it, but i don't give a shit, if they are going to try and steal my stuff, i'm 2 hairs short of cutting off their fingers for it just to make an example, because today, things have gotten so out of hand.

When I stepped out of line, and I mean really stepped out of line I got my ass beat. It made me think twice about what I was doing. I don't have any emotional scars, there are no deep seated psychological issues and I don't hate them. If anything I respect them for doing what they needed to keep me in line.

In hindsight I should have said something to the parents but the last thing we needed were someone telling us to mind our own business when my son's well being is my business.

I'm with Tyrsonswood. Sometimes I hate being human because of people like that.

Oh i've had my ass kicks, my ass paddled, i've had the wooden spoon and the yard stick, my ears boxed, my head flicked, so on and so forth, nothing that involved blood or brusing, but i was damn soar from some of it for a few days, specially when you get a good thump in the tail bone.

While initially the thought was that my parents were evil for doing it, knowing and seeing what i see now it not only makes sense, it's a requirement.

These parents that ground their children and send them to their rooms, generally even today don't hold them to it for anything. Grounding anyone or using the count to 10 is complete bullshit. Children arn't stupid, they learn fast, and they know how to work the system in their favor. If they can do it and only get yelled at a little bit, and most cases parents don't even raise their voice anymore, they really aren't affected and will learn to start doing things, horrible things behind their backs and present the goody two shoes while in their eyes view.

It royally pissed me off when these little pricks have control of their parents to the point of being the one that bosses them around and treats them like shit for even excisting..... Oh how i'd love to have legal imunity to royally give them a long term disiplinary.


And when it comes down to it all, Capital punishment, or public punishment in some form will clean this shit up in a REAL hurry, Bullshit to the "this will cause them mental pain".... shit yes in that they get their shit straight because they've been living in a dream world where they are either the star or everyone else is the enemy from their point of view.

I'm ready to give my kid a swift shot or two on the butt if he really deserves it. I'm not going to use it as a way to threaten them to be good and I'm not going to do it when it isn't truly warranted just like my parents.

There is no way I'm having one of these kids that tells of their grade 2 teacher you can't touch me or I'll report you. Grade 2! I heard a report about a kid that actually did this. His teacher can't touch him but I sure can.

My mother in-law is a substitute teacher and she won't teach beyond grade 3 because they are unruly little brats with no respect for anybody. Teachers get nothing but respect from me. Having to put up with shit day in and day out. Why my sister decided to get into it I'll never know.

It sickens me the way society caters to the whiners now. My father's generation was taken to the woodshed almost daily when they stepped out of line. Now everybody is so afraid that they will emotionally scar someone with even a good grounding. I say fuck Dr. Phil (not literally - that's gross) and bring back the strap in schools and spanking in the home.

When I was suspended from junior high school my mother put me to work...hard. I had the entire house sparkling over 3 days, inside and out and I lost everything for 3 months. Television, video games, I was in bed by 9...you name it. Shit was locked down and they were cold towards me. I knew I stepped in something.

The way that my parents raised me and handled certain situations I learned respect for people and property, I learned that I couldn't just do what I wanted because it affected people around me and I learned that there are consequences for every action.

I'm still fuming over this even though it has long been over. It's sad to say but I am dreading when my son goes to school because of the types of kids that people are raising today.

when we were growing up we got cane'd or you spend the evening on you knees or something, but this "go to your room" stuff dont work,,, but seriously, if i were you Optix, i definitely would have given the "bullying kid's parents" a piece of my mind.

here here, if my mum was mad she'd throw a shoe, my dad had his belt, even a hint of disobedience was dealt with, I mean it didn't go as far torture but I always seemed to know I was in the wrong and I deserved it even though I also felt it wasn't fair .

You're telling me. If I stole from a convienience store or talked back to an adult in a rude manner, I got an ass-whooping. When I was 18, I told my dad he was a pussy and he punched me right in the mouth. So, even as I got older, my dad still kicked my ass. But it did make me a stronger and wiser person.

He never really hurt me, he just did it to knock some sense into me. If he had hurt me, I probably couldn't have forgiven him. That's the problem with kids these days...they have no sense of what suffering really is. Maybe if we spent more time showing our children how to act instead of telling them...

Sadly kids have lawyers now a days...
It makes raising a child into a young adult very difficult as it allows for children to become shitheads.

If I ever in my child hood have even though of being brave enough to act the way kids do now, i'm sure my bottom would still be permanently bruised and well deserved at that.
