To the mindless computer users out there... grow some grey matter
Really in this day and age, there shouldn't be a reason why to click yes/ok/and accept/allow for every single little pop up.
Sure there is the general rule, yes, it's ok to make a mistakes at least once, understandable, but to repeat the SAME EXACT mistake twice/three times back to back within a short time calls into question your learning curve. Anything more and you should shot/banned from using computers for a period of time until you can reflect on your own stupidity. The punishment is to be 10 fold worse if you complain about your bill for "rebuilding" your machine let alone if some of the files may be missing.... what do you expect when you download purposefully and grant access to everything you have on your machine to a bunch of viruses that waltz in and change file names, and corrupt entire databased beyond being able to restore them without sending off to someone that would charge hundreds or thousands of dollars lol... just STFU Don't get me started on warranty you pricks, Warranty of anything DOES NOT COVER stupidity related to allowing garbage to destroy the software side of things..... your going to pay to get it fixed ..... sure let your family friends have a stab at it.. but don't complain when they screw it up.. still voids warranty if someone messes it up.

Re: To the mindless computer users out there... grow some grey matter
At least one of those "pop up" deals only allows you to click "OK", it has no other options, and it then shuts down your anti virus and installs a trojan........ because you just said it was "okay" to do so.
The only way to stop this is to shut down the browser immediately without clicking the pop up at all.....

Re: To the mindless computer users out there... grow some grey matter
anti-virus ... doesn't matter what make/brand whatever..... is completely irrelivant..
you get this popup.... and your fucked .... period... if you allow/ok/grant permission to do anything. Anti-virus doesn't detect it... it gets quarantined and then removed..... your machines starts going into convulsions, and next thing you know.. a full windows reinstall is pretty much required unless your willing to put up with constant problems... or willing to take a chance with a windows repair with bits and peices of that crap floating around in the machines... It's pretty pandemic.. And no one is being held accountable.. because 99% of the time the adserver companies plasting crap up on websites aren't checking what they are putting up. while majority aren't downloading a virus staight away, it may as well be, usually it's a fake anti-virus program that inserts itself all over the computer leaving shit in places that makes it almost impossible to remove, and then it proceeds to download other trojans.. and telling your infected before that even happens making you try and pay to "activate" it with credit card..... so it's like the worlds worst senario. And people are falling for it.... i've had to tell a number of customers to cancel their credit cards and keep and eye on their bank accounts because they told me straight away they couldn't get the product activated.. most of them think it's a genuine product and only brought it in to get it activated... about half of these people think i'm bullshitting them when i tell them they've got malware taking their computer ransom.... and further infecting it.... With modern machines, i've told my customers.. for the simpliest way to avoid everything at all costs if ANYTHING remotely pops up like that crap, where there is an ok/cancel etc.... many of which are now putting the "ok" under the cancel button so when you think your canceling.. your actually hitting ok..... i just telll them.. hit the power button on the computer.. let it shutdown.. start it up and avoid that website. And for the LOVE of gaud.... UAC has been the only thing able to prevent it from just taking over the machine.... without UAC enabled.. your straight away screwed within split seconds, most don't even notice it doing crap because it's so fast.. least with UAC enabled... you have a single chance to HALT whatever it is trying to do.... And like i said.. doesn't matter what you have..... avast/nod32/norton/mcafee/avg/kareaspy/onelivecare... on and on and on.. doesn't matter.. period... all of them... either by themselves or even working together.. have all been completely neutralized in seconds and made useless/removed.

I've only seen them a few times and it was on MySpace....... they are buried in the ads and the ad servers don't check before posting them, so they could be anywhere there is advertising.

Can you not use the task manager to shut them down?

Well, still, better to kill that process than shut down the computer.

Re: To the mindless computer users out there... grow some grey matter
i never said i shut off MY computer.. i've been telling people that seem to not know what to do and panic.. just to turn off the comptuer..
Some of the pop ups stay on top of all windows or won't let you exit the browser at all until you've clicked somewhere on the pop up. one of the buttons.... But clicking the X/ok/cancel/whatever all of them are now known to be all "OK" buttons.... which isn't good either. I've gone to an official websites for many things.. shit even toms hardware had it. If you ever visit the FAIL Blog: Epic Fail Funny Pictures and Funny Videos of Owned, Pwned and Fail Moments which is HUGELY popular... i get that shit once every week at the very least.. Not i would not be surprised if it is mostly only north america effected by this (regional based ad placement) but all i can say..... it's pretty DAMN epidemic here. Over 90% of the machines i've had to fix in the past 2 years have ALL been related to this kind of garbage and it's getting worse, worse as in digging so damn deep into windows, no amount of cleaning and repair can fix it without a complete wipe and reinstall of windows to make sure. Windows XP users are just plain fucked, no matter the firewall/antivirus i've seen installed, they are just screwed the moment those suckers popup usually (with UAC, suddenly things are different) And with uac disable on vista/win7, they are in the same boat as windows xp. Frankly i find this catastrophic. Worst yet, they are nailing Mac OS now as i've had 3 machines come in totally ruined almost identical looking stuff. What's really bad is that they couldn't even get restore discs to load and kill the problem. Not fun for the poor mac users either.

I always disable UAC on win 7 , don't have an antivirus too. But when system begins to misbehave I reinstall windows from scratch.

And since you are so young chances are you don't have any important work on the PC.I still don't think Judas' advice is the best. Also, you visit that FAIL site and you keep getting this "virus". Only that you keep visiting no matter what. Then you complain that your customers do the same thing. Kinda funny.

Look your not dealing with people remotely close to anyone that most likely ever visits this site. We are dealing with people that generally wouldn't be a surprise if they know where the clock is sometimes, or what right clicking does. Let alone how to navigate with very precise, clear, even graphical walkthroughs. So when your dealing with these, even remotely attempting to tell them to open the task manager is about an hours worth of work in some cases it seems. And i'm not suggesting a "HARD shutdown"... no no.. push the button, windows will force end tasks on everything, then fire it up again when it's good to go and generally this will "solve" the concern, worry and all possibility that something is lerking. false... i know what i'm doing... and i know how to avoid it What i'm complaining about is that many people or repeatedly infecting themselves through the same stuff... I myself, have YET to get a virus/malware.... ever....

Judas, fair enough, although about the last one, how would you know if it wasn't one of the LOOK AT ME I AM HERE types? (since you are not using any protection software)

It's not hard to spot considering they don't tend to let you view them.. i keep a pretty tight ship in terms of my computers when it comes to this stuff... checking startup services and task manages processes.. i so much as feel a hint of an issue and i check. And using utilities at various times to double check, i've never had a virus detected... And i do have a poor brutalized machine that i purposely infect just to see how it goes and if i can fix it.... it's quite interesting watching it get infected... as it's not really speedy so i can sometimes see it do it's work.

Re: To the mindless computer users out there... grow some grey matter
I hate the people on Facebook who seem to not understand the effect they cause when they copy and past a section of code into their status that will magically enable the user to see who is viewing your profile, or other magical stuff, but actually it sends spam, bad links to harmful material to every friend on their profile. Then they find another page offering slightly better results and repeatedly send out this spam. I have unfriended people because they suck when they don't understand that they are helping malicious people who have nothing to do than to try and cause problems in cyberspace.

my friendlist is also fairly small.... and i have a habit of giving people shit shortly after asking them nicely to stop doing that... only for them to continue doing so..... at which point i initially start hiding them.. and if they continue to blast me with invites and other crap.... i just remove them ...
