Default Post What a great idea for a for a forum - BTW, Lite-On Sucks!

I love a good flaming forum.

I've had three seperate Lite-On optical drives quit on me and I've seen their highly touted DVD 16x drive run like crap.

Any post that say differently are flat out wrong.

(...as I jump into my flame retardant suit..)

Amen to that...

Creative drives suck beaver butt....their horrible! I think if I could make a better one out of an old 1985 CD Player, chicken wire, and duct tape. Last longer too.

Default Post Bad Drives Take Effort

I am thoroughly convinced that one has to TRY to make a shitty drive. Here is why.

I have never purchased a Plextor burner. Or a TDK. Which is to say, I don't buy expensive, brand-name burners. And most of the readers I buy are Afreey. The burners I've owned came from the illustrious Smart and Friendly, Matsushita (Panasonic), and "GENERIC." I swear to God that I have a burner so generic, BIOS detects it as "GENERIC CD-R16P." My Generic drive reads CDs very poorly, but I've another drive to read (Pioneer 10X DVD that I've had since '99) so I don't care. It does its job --burning-- flawlessly. All of those drives are working today. They all perform(ed) admirably. I have a Lite-On I pulled from a 233MHz COMPAQ and it still works great.

In fact, I only have had one drive crap out on me before. And it was a Creative Infra. Well, it hasn't crapped out yet, but it's dying. So, basically, I buy generic ass drives and they give me little to no problems. And the only drive to really FAIL at its job was a Creative. Something that like doesn't just happen -- that takes effort.

Creative really sucks; everything they touch turns to shit, and I will never buy a product made by that Godless company every again.

Oh, wait, that was off-topic.

Yeah, well.

When I posted this I had three dead LiteOn CD-ROMS in my cabinet. Now I have one dead 32x CD/RW on it's way back to NewEgg.

I have built almost 60 systems with the Pioneer DVD 16x, and it's flawless. I have used Toshiba and even Aopen. All great, not one DOA.

Lite On DVD drives are noisy and have a hard time reading SVCD's for some stupid reason.

Creative is definitly worse, but I have much anger for Lite On.

EDIT : I just saw the comment "You get what you pay for." So true, so true. Lite On = cheap, Lite On = suck.

Yeah, Lite-On's are great if you only want it to work for a day or two and you need a drive that's louder than a broken 120mm fan.

Why waste your time with Lite_on junk? Buy a brand that actually takes some time with their products to make sure they work.

Lite On: Eat a fat one. I'm not letting you get away with this. All the n00bs love you because your cheap, but I know the truth. Evil bastards.

Well, looks like I may be alone in my opinion of Lite-On. I've had several crap out on me and I find their QA standards (if they even have any) to be very, very low.

I guess I have had bad luck with them, but I can say for sure I will never purchase a Lite-On again.

Erm guys

I've seen a few posts saying that Creative drives are better than Lite-On drives aor vice versa.

Do you actually know that most of Creatives drives are made by Lite-On and simply rebadged? I've got a Creative DVD player that I've flashed with the latest Lite-On firmware - which fixes a few probs.....

Probably. I'd be willing to bet it would, but I am not going to try it.

But I guess a tray of that quality is to be expected on a drive that costs 5 times the price of a LiteOn burner.
