6 hard drives, including 240 gig raid taking over 100 cds of backup. I dont think so

all ports locked, IP and port tracer, some illegal tools and additional server to bounce an attack back, sometimes even shutting down offender

virus blocked. then send him one back, a hybrid. no need to reformat

best form of defence is attack especially seeing as most offenders are script kiddies
yes, i'm sure you have a great computer. well, i don't. i'd like to squeeze everything out of it that i can. running antivirus software and firewalls negates my overclock, making my stressing of components useless.

also, i don't have 70gb of data on my computer, i have about 20, and most of it can be compressed by 95% (uncompressed video to 332k/s mpeg, if i want) or deleted and re-recorded whenever i want. i currently use 9 cd's to backup my computer, and a tenth to throw on new files/media.

If you value system performance, but still want security: you should run your firewall externally. Cisco sells firewalls etc... but thats too damn expensive. Set up an old box... p1 or p2 and just have it route all the packets to you. You can run all the hacks/firewalls/whatever that you want, without loosing a bit of performance. You can also gain performance by decreasing the amount of broadcasted packets that your computer has to deal with.

I know, i know, someone will bring up ping... but the truth is the change is ALWAYS (well for me) less than 10ms.

Even easier - install http://www.smoothwall.org on that old PC
Firewall and router in one
