Default Post A3D Sucks

Turn A3D on in neverwinter nights once. I tried it with my Audigy, and man it sucks.

I know it's not a true Aureal processor, but it works just the same as EAX in halflife, so I know the audigy can at least process it correctly.

Anyway, so I turn it on and all I hear is this constant reverb effect...outside...inside...in a dungeon...in the forest...the same reverb sound. At least it was true 4 channel...

Then I turned it on to EAX 3 (I assume it's EAX Advanced HD...because that's all I can think it would be) and I was once again happy...perfect...I say PERFECT audio in 4 channels on my z560s...perfect...put a pillar between me and campfire...perfect occlusion...perfect localization...perfect reverb...perfect, crystal clear effects and speech...mmm

Anyway, anyone who still uses A3D...you suck, drop 40 bucks on an old SB Live Value and use EAX 2.

Default Post My friend, you must be very high right now.

It's the only thing I can think of to explain your post. Yeah, superior sound quality with less of a performance hit sucks compared to EAX2....

I have a better idea, why not invest $40 in a Fortissimo II that can process both pretty f-ing excellently? If'n you get a well designed card rather than trying to use a cheap software hack on a piece of crap you'd be surprised at the real difference!

(Hey, it's the flamezone right? )

Um, lest you forget, the board you're using is made by Creative. What makes you think it can do emulation of anything properly?

Halflife A3D effects sound almost exactly the same as EAX effects. Except more localized 4 channel sound.

I'm pretty sure the Audigy supports A3D in it's correct form. AMD doesn't support a broken, crappy version of MMx or SSE now does it?

Nope, but AMD isn't Creative.

Creative bad.

exactly what i was going to say.

reno, that's like trying to get an amd processor to run on an intel mobo and saying the amd's crap because it don't work. that was dumb, and much less what i expected from you. you are a good, intelligent man, just try to act like one.

Ryoko, thanks for the complement but...

You're GAY!

(sorry, just trying to please digitalwanderer :=p)

Anyway, people just bash creative because they try and mix AMD with Creative...bad combo. I remember my old german tech magazines had special sections devoted to "fixing your AMD/Creative solution" drivers, patches, it was pretty funny.

At my current job I get to mess around with Dolby certified Dolby Digital equipment and speakers...the systems I play with everyday aren't 2000 dollar workstations, but 1.2 million dollars worth of dolby digital processors, decoders, readers, and amplifiers...I have somewhat of an idea of what sounds good...Creative sounds good...VERY good...and when I play WMA's I only get CPU usage rates of 2 percent...pretty good to me. Plus I have an optical connection...an AC3 decoder...24bit DAC...gold connectors...sweet black PCB...mmm....

Anyway, I think everyone must hate me here...considering they all advocate AMD/Aureal/Hercules/Crucial/ATI and I'm an Intel/Creative/Visiontek/Kingston/Nvidia guy. hehe

Actually, the reason I dislike Creative is not because I've had any incompatibility/instability issues with them -- I've just had some Creative hardware go out on me (SBLives!, INFRA drives), and because their drivers are atrocious. Their hardware is solid, and I remember being genuinely impressed when I first got my Live!.

As far as companies goes, whoever makes a good product for a good price with good drivers is good by me. I have no preference when it comes to memory or video card.

I understand that you guys hate Creative, but I think its getting old. You guys MUST HEAR EAX3 in action (yes, eax THREE : T-H-R-E-E, NOT 2). Its really amazing. I've never felt more immersed in the sound of a game before. The version of Giants that came with my card was patched for EAX3 and MAN it was fscking AMAZING!!!! I tried listening to A3D in PowerDVD and there were pops and clicks.... (yeah, i know, its the fault of Creative). The A3D, imo has better 3d positioining, but it just doesn't properly "immerse" the listener into the sound. Also, I found that it has weak bass. I've listened to EAX 2.... it was nothing spectacular. I'd say A3D is far superior to EAX2, but it can't even begin to compare to EAX3. Now don't go telling me a bunch of bs about how EAX3 sucks, because I know that more than half of you are with your jolly little santa cruzes and fortissimos and gametheatres and none of them have eax3.

I don't have EAX 3 because I'd rather have my QSound.

Better yet, invest $15 and get a Freak'n Hurcules Muse DvD 5.1 (same as Muse XL Gamer, but with 5.1). It does EAX 1, 2, and A3D perfectly.

Does anyone remember this...Aureal (creators of A3D and never done A3D2) sold out to Creative. Creative holds all their copyrights and patents...Creative put A3D support in their Audigy for compatability reasons...Aureal sucks...Creative rocks...I've never had a piece of Creative material die.

Shit, even after shocking my AWE64 and my brother ripping it out of it's ISA slot while it the PC was on (fricking younger brother) that 7-8 year old piece of history has never missed a beat...My SB16 still functions in it's 486sx home...and my current Audigy has NEVER had a hiccup. Javafox...you have the worst luck in the world.
