Default Post INTEL Doesn't Recommend The P4-Xeon!

I was perusing the Pentium 4 FAQ when I stumbled upon this gem:

Quote:
Q: Do Pentium 4 processors support dual processing?
A: No. The Pentium 4 processor does not provide dual-processor support. Users who want multi-processing capabilities should consider the Intel Pentium III Xeonâ„¢ processor.
Not even Intel recommends their own P4-based Xeon! I thought at first that the FAQ was outdated, but if you look around, you'll see that it mentions Northwood-Bs and their 533MHz bus, so it must be up-to-date.

Well, I remarked in another thread that you know your product is bad when your best friend won't even sell it; how BAD is the P4-Xeon that not even Intel will pimp it?

Now even Javafox is being a lamer. I remember seeing that FAQ about a year ago when it said exactly that. Obviously intel didn't bother to update.

Anyway, Xeon's with Hyperthreading seem to be REALLY kicking ass, I can't remember who posted the Xeon vs MP bench link, but I remember in some of the benchmarks intel was almost twice as fast in 3d progs.

Anyway, stupid attempt at a flame.

Anywaaay, you guys obviously did not even read my post. Why are you Intel whore so knee-jerk?

The FAQ has been updated, as it discusses Northwood-Bs (533FSB), which are more recent release than the Xeons.

I like it how you're always like "Yeah, I have proof that Intel is better, but I forget where it is or where I heard it though."

Really?

Check out this Anandtech article, where you see, short of "kicking ass," the 2.4GHZ Xeon barely pulling ahead of the 1.67GHz Athlon MPs in a slew of database benchmarks. The 2.2GHz Xeon and the MP 2100+ are basically equals, with the Athlons occasionally pulling ahead. Hyperthreading was enabled.

Perhaps you missed the Inquirer article that discussed PC manufacters being upset that PIII-Xeon configurations outperformed P4-Xeon rigs?

And isn't hype-rthreading yet another Intel performance gimmick which offers little real world benefit and needs to be specifically programmed for to take advantage of?

there is next to no optimizations for hyperthreading which makes it next to useless.

I can't even believe you trust the InqWell, they are almost never right. No matter what they do.

JavaFox, do you REALLY think Intel, the money mongering, processor whore you so hate would REALLY dissuade buyers from it's brand new line of Xeon processors?

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. = JavaFox

I can only call them as I seem them. And all I see is a) an updated FAQ recommending that customers intersted in SMP look to the PIII-Xeon, b) articles alleging that the PIII-Xeon outperforms the P4-Xeon, and c) no compelling reason to go with a P4-Xeon.

So...?

I'll try to write what i'm saying and what they respond.

Hey I was considering building a dual pentium 4 processor computer but the P4 FAQ says I need to use pentium 3 xeons? What's going on?

Fuck they sent me to "pre sale"...

Ok trying again with the new number 1800 538 3373

I asked if there was no pentium 4 xeon because of the faq.

They told me I need to use the "Intel xeon which is based on the pentium 4 technology"

They wouldn't explain the FAQ.

waste of time.

Eh, i don't see much use in Intel's Xeons. I think that when it comes to raw processing power, IBM RISC machines are much faster and AMDs are much more cost effective. Intel is straddling the fence and losing ground. :/ Just my 2c.

Just my 2c... i really think that if someone wanted to buy an Xeon P4 system that they should, simply because its their decision and not mine. (if they ask me for my opinion, i will give them an earful though)

My school has 2 proc Xeon (1.5,1.8 don't know) in class of informathycs, which is a server.
So, it supports dual processors.
But I don't like it - it is Compaq EVO W6000 and has crappy M64 inside...
No such speed or something...

Just build a Dual Xeon 700Mhz server at work..it's a W2K/IIS web server with 1,5 Gb RAM (purchasing made a little error )..not too impressed by the speed so far..but it gives a solid smooth feel..no long waits or hick-ups so far.

for the interested..it's a compaq ML570 server.

Only bug we stumbled accros with the P4 is that the Oracle client has issues when installing on a P4 station..of course intel will say that's an Oracle bug

And as you said, it's the Flame Warzone, not the Bloody Minded Opinion Forum. Kelsawhatshisname didn't flame
