The problem that Hsugotaq has with montreal is that fact that he lives on the outskirts of the gay village of Montréal, so it is kinda frustrating.

What I want to know is why people defend Domesticated animals so full heartedly (sp?) but then they go home and grill up a cow and have no comments about the cruelty to these kinds of animals. This is not me telling you all to stop eatng meat, but I just think its funny how we call ourselves animal lovers but only defend Domesticaated animals eg. Cast, dogs, birds etc.

Monkee, you raise a good point, and I will attempt to answer your question. Cats, dogs, and birds --and many others-- were domesticated as companions. As companions, people obviously feel more affectionately towards these creatures. You care more about your girlfriend or wife than you do about what's-her-name in your Algebra class, don't you?

The feelings people have towards domesticated animals exist because they see these animals not as mere animals --and not as food-- but as friends.

That said, there are plenty of people who've decided that eating cows is cruel and abstain from eating beef; I have nothing but respect for these people. In fact, my favorite person in the whole world is such a creature.

I don't necessarily believe eating beef is bad, but if it were extracted in a needlessly cruel way, I would not be interested.

So, really, it's a mere difference in perception. When you think "cat" you think "friend," and when you think "cow," you think "food." That's just the way we justify it.

Regardless, though, the kind of cruelty described in the news article is an absolute and abject crime, and laws should be altered to allow our criminal justice system to punish these sacks of shit even more. If a cow were tortured and barbequed while still alive, it would be equally disgusting to me.

I haven't met any cows, but I know that cats and dogs have souls and personalities. It's just not right to hurt them.
