I could just buy two Athlon MP's for the price of one new Intel CPU and run a nice duel processor system.

EDIT CYBORG: Yes. (Just testing the forum BTW)

Default Post Intel fans must have cash to burn...

If you uncompromisingly need THE FASTEST SYSTEM, I am curious as to why you'd choose a P4 2.53GHz over dual Athlon MP 2000+s. Or, hell, why don't you go with 64 UltraSparcs? Sun's got a $30,000,000 dollar computer for sale, I'm sure IT'S faster than the vaunted P4.

What? What's that you say? Price IS a consideration?

Oh, well, then the newest P4 isn't really worth a damn, then is it?

multiple processors of any type won't do jack for almost every game on the planet. so why buy dual MP's? So you can run your 30 hit a day website uberfast over your 28.8 connection with a redhat server? or, would you actually like playable framerates (50+fps) in morrowind?

Or you could have all your background processes on one processor, while your game take advantage of the other processor.

You could fold@home for R3D on one proc while game with the other.

Then again gaming performance will take a hit as the dual cpu amd chipset scores slower than the kt266A....

Lol you really are the intel hater around here.

If your rich and are a hardcore gamer then you'd get the p4 as mp's arn't good for gaming and I don't know of many sun super computers that can play games as well...

Indeed. Intel fans act like once Intel produces a processor marginally faster AMD will suddenly burst into flames or throw in the towel. Yeah, yeah, so your chip performs a little bit better (it's only clocked 800MHz higher). That doesn't mean the P4 is going to stay on top for any length of time.

STOP!

hammer looks to be quite nice.

Now if Intel counters with yamill then things should get real interesting.

Prescott is another thing too. =/ Intel got all kinds of chips.

kakarot, it's that kind of ignorance that gives AMD users a bad name. Thoroughbred is a good step, but it is not revolutionary. We aren't going to see any kind of better performance, clock-for-clock. What we're going to have is a cooler Palomino. I think it's going to take a true 2GHz part from AMD to firmly regain the performance crown from the Northwood-Bs.

Intel whores are stupid, but dumb AMD fans are pretty intolerable as well.

Maybe that was kinda harsh but I have a pretty good reason to hate Intel. Anyway it went kinda like this; I wanted to replace my aging Athlon with the newest, fastest tech out there which at the time looked like it was a 1.8Ghz P4 paired with RDRAM. So I got myself one for an insane amount of money and I figured I would have very, very fast PC. But to my amazement it wasn't even close to what I already had which cost 1/3 the money. My trusty AMD beat that thing like a red headed stepchild in everyway. I was very lucky my brother was looking for a PC at the time so I passed it on without loosing out. I was very unhappy with my purchase. Anyway Intel will never be good with me because they severely overprice every weak processor they make. How can that thing have a price like that? I learned the hardway Sorry if you don't like what I said but Intel just rapes people left and right. Maybe they got their act together now but it's too late for me. I didn't mean to upset anyone in anyway

kakarot, I'm not trying to convince you that Intel is worth a damn. Read some of my other posts; you'll see that I hate Intel with a vehemence exceeded by few others.

But the P4 2.53GHz does beat anything AMD's got, except for in 3D rendering tests. Not by much --and not for long-- but it does, and denying that is pretty much ridiculous.

I also agree with you 100%, that new P4 seems to be screamer. Now if they could only sell them for a reasonable price.

On the topic of hammer...
What makes you think prescott isn't going to be a screamer?
and you can throw the 64 bit crap out the window because its going to be a good while tell 64 bit is TRUELY used by the mainstream. Not a one line of code so it uses a few bits so they can say its 64 bit, as in marketing bullshit.
