Default Post Should the flame section be shut?

ok this forum section was originally intended as a way to blow off steam and to be tongue in cheek and a little "zany", to keep the crap out of the rest of the forum.

Frankly im tired of emails complaining about the conduct of members in it, and other staff members have mentioned receiving emails about this forum section as well.

Regarding the flame zone if it annoys you well I cant see why the people who dont like it, cant just avoid it! but Driverheaven as a whole is meant for you the community, and if the majority of you dont like it, well then I will remove it completely. I have to say, and im pretty open minded, that some of the content in it has been pretty heavy at times and perhaps a little personal to alot of members.

so let me see what you all feel. is it keeping the crap out of Driverheaven? or is it having the reverse effect and putting more "crap" into the place.

And dont start flaming in this thread.

Mods can vote as well.

Z.

I've been to forums with Flaming sections, and I've been to forums without them. The forums at my site don't have them and I doubt I'll ever add them.

Flaming forums only let people vent to some degree. I find it hard to believe that, if there really is a problem between two or more members, it will be kept within the confines of such a place. I'll admit, I posted in the Flaming forum here when it first openned; I've since rarely visited and have kept more to the sections for which this place exists. I don't find satisfaction in telling someone off or ripping them for their beliefs - it's counterproduct not very intelligent.

If you want to get your rocks off and say whatever you want to whoever you want and not give a rat's backside about what they think, there are dime-a-dozen other places to go to do that. As for myself, I'll stick to forums that keep themselves at the head of the pack by ensuring a quality experience for everyone.

I have a similar section in my forums and they seem to work rather well. Of course we haven't had quite the number of people that this site does in quite awhile

I don't think the flame section should be closed, like you said, if people don't like it, all they have to do is avoid it. As far as I'm concerned it's just a bit of harmless fun I find it hard to believe that anybody really takes any of it seriously

Not that I ever thought I'd agree with this guy, but I do. Besides, *sniff* *sniff* where else would we get to see all the love?

Default Post re

IMHO keep it open all the way.

i'm one that have all the fun when reading stuff in there..
and sometime i'll gain knowledge from ppls 'free speech',
sometimes.. really know what's real especially when ppls get real mad.
i also think every members are mature enough to know/understand what's going on in there really.

well put it this way, i wud say (if you wud) you might consider to explain a bit more on the "Welcome" to the forum to make sure they know all the rules and must not take things seriously/personally.. or perhaps rewrite the pages to make the section abit less importance.. or may be put an "Enter" and "I Agree" or somes LOL.

and yes, you can choose to close it individually.. make the rules to the section a bit thicker then you and/or the admins will get more chance to shut down some threads easier and perhaps at short notices/intervals.
and hey its upto you.. i'll not say a thing to whatever when its come to the conclusion.

First, I'm kind of sad my poll got shut down. It was a lot funnier than this "all-serious" one.

Anyway...I like this forum, it's usually the only one I check, just because it IS tounge in cheek. If someone doesn't like getting attacked personally, then don't enter this forum. Simple as that.

Zardon, I find it hard to believe you promote censorship of your own website...hmm. Maybe make an age restriction, a non-liability waiver to be read and accepted, then let anyone in the forum do whatever they want?

I know I don't factor in much to the driverheaven.net status quo, and not to seem like an asshole, but I believe the flame forum is an integral component to keeping this site visit worthy, at least for me. I like being able to vent some steam, then go and chit chat about optical mice and pakistan for a while.

Whatever, those are my two cents, which are most likely out of circulation and merely nostalgic collectors items now.

I shut your poll down due to the fact I have been meaning to post this for a while and frankly the people complaining about this forum section is quite a serious problem -- if you were to see the amount of complaints we get about specific comments. My inbox at times isnt a pleasant place to see.

I dont agree with censorship, I mean if I did, do you not think I would start editing alot of the comments on the board already? but there are certain rules on this board, as there should be in any broad cross section of a community to ensure that all age groups can post in a comfortable environment, which is the way I wanted it when it was originally open.

Perhaps working on a disclaimer message when entering this forum section might be a useful addition, but there is no way to place an age restriction on this section, we all know that wont work on the internet. unless I take a persons credit card details like alot of the porn/adult sites? and I doubt many would feel comfortable with that, I sure know I wouldnt.

As for now the flame section will remain open and I will monitor the situation over the coming month and talk with staff about it -- I would request that the rules as they stand for this section remain in place, that being, no porn, no warez or no racial targeting/comments.

I would also advise a little common sense, that being, DONT take it all so seriously, and if you dont like it, or cant handle it, please just dont click the link therefore avoiding it, there are many other sections on this board with alot of useful information.

There are some good "flamers" in here, and they are meant to cause offense, but I doubt alot of the comments made are close to heart, and are indeed intended as "fun" and a lighthearted way to let off steam and rant. remember if someone annoys you, the best couse of action is to NOT reply. Abuse of the rules and/or continued personal attacks will of course, break forum rules and should be refered to staff members.

Thanks for the voting and emails regarding this subject.
