Its not really racing unless the driver relies more on skill than the dang car...

it just doesn't happen anymore. And when shown on TV, all we get to see are the first five cars "idly" driving round the lap. My opinion, of course.

This is my first post on HW Forum, and to the least did I expect for my first post to be about my love for Motorsports.
I have been in Flagging & Communications for SCCA since 1991. Since then I have worked 42 races for the CART FedEx Championship Series. Have worked races as well for F1, ALMS/IMSA, Nascar WC, SCCA, Trans-AM, etc etc. I love open wheel racing, and F1 is, and will always be the pinnacle of Motorsports around the world. The downside is F1 has become more boring as of late, as the front of the grid is heads and shoulders over the back of the grid. The racing can still be very good at times, but other times atrocious. I really dont like Ferrari dictating who wins races like in Austria early this season. CART is having its own problems, but to this day is maybe the most competitive, and exciting form of major open wheel racing to watch. I have had the chance to see these cars race on 14 different tracks, and always get goose bumps on friday mornings when the cars take to the track for their first practice session. In CART, you can be the polesitter one week, and the next week not find your setup, in head of the rear of the pack. Also the diversity of the courses means you really have to be on top of your game to have a chance at the Championship. Christiano Da Matta racing for Newman-Haas, just wrapped this up in Miami last weekend, having a STELLAR season, and made everyone else look like rookies. I love F1 for the technology, glamour, and history, but Champcar racing is much better, if you expect to see more than 3-4 drivers having a chance at winning. To further put things in perspective, my favorite series, among all of them, is the SCCA Trans-Am Series, which if you have the chance to see, SEE IT! It is a great series with some really cool cars.

Welcome Mike !!
Good piece you added ..about Ferrari..big question is weither F1 is a team sport or not, i say yes it is..in Austria Ferrari made sure the Shumacher would be World Champion, in Indy Shummi returned the favour and made sure Barrichello would be 2nd in the championship..don't see anything wrong there.. Much better than Williams..taking each other out race after race because there own drivers are too competitive against each other. Don't know that much about cart..are there teams there ? or is it every man for himself ?

Players Forsythe - Patrick Carpentier (#32) and Alex Tagliani (#33) Newman-Haas Racing - Christian Fittipaldi (#11) and Christiano Da Matta (#6) Target Chip Ganassi Racing - Scott Dixon (#44), Bruno Junquiera (#4), and Kenny Brack (#12) Team Rahal - Jimmy Vasser (#8) and Michel Jourdain (#9) Teak KOOL Green - Paul Tracy (#26), Dario Franchitti (#27), and Michael Andretti (#39) Fernandez Racing - Adrian Fernandez (#51) and Shinji Nakano (#52) These are the multiple car teams Rarely do any of them follow any team orders. The teammates do work closer together than their counterparts in F1 on working on proper set-ups, although this really depends from team to team. Team KOOL Green 2 years ago, had a chance to make team orders at the street race in Houston, where Paul Tracy was leading the race, and there was a question on whether the command to let teammate Dario Franchitti (who was in 2nd) pass him to take the win, and points lead over eventual Champion Juan Pablo Montoya. Turns out, that would have made a difference in the championship, as Montoya and Franchitti ended up tied for the series Championship, with Montoya winning on virtue of more race wins during the season. Dario did a little "blocking" at the Indy 500 (IRL sanctioned race) to help Paul catch up with race leader Helio Castroneves. You will see it from time to time, but doesnt rear its ugly head as much as you see it in F1. Not that I see it as a bad thing, just depends on the situation and circumstances of the race and series championship. I do see how fans feel cheated, when things like this blatantly happen, but thats just the way it goes, and I accept that as being part of the sport. Picture of me in CART paddock at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course in 2000 for the CART Miller Lite 200
