hehe, i am sure you've heard this a thousand times. nvidiots really suck . IMO i "cheer" for nvidia, since i personally prefer nvidia -- just like cheering on your favorite football team in the football or something. that's perfectly OK in my opinion... it's those people who undermine and harass fans of the other team that makes life horrible.

there's nothing wrong with being faithful to your own team, but please show some sportsmanship

the same thing goes for ati, but a lot of the fanatics have really started to settle down, and i really appreciate that. go ahead and get your video card, enjoy life, don't worry about what others have to think about it. if i buy a ford mustang, i should enjoy my purchase, and not care if a pontiac firebird can go faster than me going around the third corner of the curvy road down the street... i just don't see why that has to be any different for video cards is all.

lol, i don't intend to insult anyone here, but i really don't agree with that.

no, nvidiots and fanatics are not conducive to competition. people who look at the situation in a real prespective are those that cause the competition to be fierce. if there was a 40% less performance on ati platforms some people would still get ati cards. why would this make ati inclined to increase the quality of their technology? same thing goes for nvidia, just fill in the blanks appropriately. of course, arguments and debates are what drives it, but nvidiots and fanatics kill those debates, and often it ends up with the readers unsure of who to believe, or believing in FUD spread by a fanboy. that's not helping out anyone, it just causes another loyal fan of cardA or cardB.

if we looked objectively at the cards and only got the one that was statistically better, you'd see the competition raise much higher than it already is. unfortunately, the problem with that would be the possibility of bankruptcy after a certain provider "wins" 2 generations of cards in a row. of course, this will never happen, and nvidia could probably keep afloat with their motherboard/xbox sales.

just saying that quote sounds good when you don't actually give it a good think through, but in practice that's very very wrong IMO.

Far as I'm concerned it's just another piece of hardware either way. I've owned both and show loyalty to neither. Whoever gives me the best bang for the buck is my buddy for the time being, this time it's nvidia. Last time, ATi.

Whats funny is you don't see this same crap with AMD vs. Intel. I don't at least.

eh, the waters are calm now, but it was actually probably worse than this between amd/intel for when the athlon series was being released.

also, video cards aren't something that can have one answer. a processor really is generally just stronger or weaker, and that can be measured in a very exact measurment of instructions per second. video cards perform differently in different games and applications, also they don't always produce a perfect image quality. processors end up with the same results of information every time regardless, or they are labeled unstable.

that's my conjecture of why ati vs nvidia is more active than the amd vs intel argument.

The card depend on what type of games you play; as everyone knows, nVidia is best for OGL games, and ATI is best for D3D games. So if you just play a crap game like Counter-Strike all day, then by all means get nVidia. But if you play games like Half-Life 2, Manhunt, The Suffering, yada yada, and all that good stuff, you want ATI...

I think ATI will be better than nVidia in the future because OGL is getting kind of old and more good games are sticking to D3D now.

competition is healthy, and very necessary, and extremists are but a small portion of the community...and will always exist...so who cares?

I am the one who pays ati and nvidia's bills as i build systems for people, and I must say i do pay BOTH their bills. I buy whatever is gunna serve my client best, be it a 9600 pro, FX 5900 ultra, 9800 pro, or even integrated SiS Graphics....it doesn't make a damn bit of difference who's tag is on the chip so long as it gets the job done and keeps me under budget

i have personally been an ati fan for a long time. i'm starting to like the 6800gt but i'm still waiting to see how it performs on games OTHER than doom 3 which i have already finished. i didnt like any of the fx series cards, though i thought the ti series was great - especially the venerable ti4200 back in the day.

i dont really care about the nvidia vs ati battle. it's just a normal part of economics and business strategy. it's the annoying fanboys from both camps that just like to bash. i'm a fanboy because all i ever owned is ati, but definitely not disillusioned to the point that i get arrogant.

wow, the last thing i thought this topic would do is bring up an nvidia vs ati debate within itself. this is about fanboys, not the cards themselves. fanboys help nothing, extremists are going to exist, as long as we allow them to exist. if people knew that being retarded and telling blatent lies are gonna get them banned, they might be less inclined to do so.

the claims that ati is best for all D3D games is a complete lie. it varies from game to game. nvidia does indeed have better opengl support, but ati is working on correcting that. opengl is only old games? what do you call doom3? what about call of duty? opengl is very much so important to this world, and has been implemented in games since counterstrike.

you, sir, are a great example of why i started this thread to begin with. go continue sucking Dave Orton's dick and leave me alone ;/.

i can't really see how anyone could be a fanatic for a video card. Comparing sports to...video cards...there are some similarities i guess, but there's a big difference too - one's just a product. Untill there's a world cup for video cards, there will never be a clear winner. But since a lot of you "fanatics" are just stubborn assholes with closed-minded ideas, im sure you'd find some way to say "but that wasn't fair" if they did have one. Since both cards hold their own in different games & platforms, they're pretty much equal. One might do better than the other in this game, but the other way around in this game, they cancel each other out. They're both good.

A big reason of why there are so many sports fanatics now is because it gets passed down by parents and friends, and because in sports they're actually competing for something, the superbowl, rose bowl, whatever. There's no Superbowl for video cards, its just a matter of PREFERENCE when it comes down to it, since both cards are on the same level. Its not a matter of preference who wins the superbowl, one team is going to do better than all the others...my point is, its pointless to fight and slam the other guy. Be a video card fanatic if thats your thing...your not right or wrong, so just keep it to yourself.

well, believe me, i select my video cards based on who is better suited for my needs. if i thought ati was better suited for my needs, then you better believe i would be an ati fan. to me the reason why i prefer nvidia is because of linux driver support. it's really in black and white for me, i'm rather forced into buying an nvidia card because the ati drivers suck so bad in linux. hopefully one of these days ati will put on a decent competition, but that day isn't here now and certainly wont be here any time soon.

that's why i "cheer" for nvidia, because since i am forced into only having the ability to get one brand of card... i like that card to be as good as it can be. as far as other people having a "preference" i suppose there is really no logical reason that i could think of that one would prefer one over the other.

and you know what? I hate nVidia. They trashed 3dfx and for that I cant really forgive them. Granted, I use an nforce2 board, but when it comes to graphics cards I just wont touch them. I cant really stand nvidia. Its a personal grudge that may not have any real point to it, but im comfortable with that.
