Default Post Computer geek revolt

have you had people say that you are a computer nerd... and then you have to tell them "computer geek", and have you had jokes be made about you because you like computers and like to learn more and more and more and more and more about them? well my friends and i have decided... IT'S ENOUGH!!! the time of the jocks is over, computer geeks must come to rule!!! when someone makes fun of you, or just cracks a joke... CRACK ONE BACK! someone today called me a computer nerd, so i said "you're just mad because your system is still a 50 MHz processor with 2 KB of cache, you only have 4 megs of ram, and you only have a video card with 1 meg of ram!!!" he shut up. i tell you, FIGHT BACK! we are the ones who can be rich, not them. We are the ones who will be powerful... NOT THEM! It's time WE are on the offence, and not them... join with me and my friend, if you are a true computer geek, you will fight. (meaningful song that really makes you want to fight back starts)

I know exactly how you feel I am what most people call "A biker" tattos wear leather smoke all that and I have friends that have degrees in computers who come to me for help... Even the people at the pc stores get confused when I go down there for parts because they think I'm a moron and that they can double-talk me. I f**king hate that.

Default Post yea...

i know how you feel sourcer, me and my friend know the most out of ANYONE in the school, and we know pretty much the same, we just teach each other everything we know, since we want to go into business together, anyway i am also 15 and will be 16 in march, and the only guy in school that knows more than me LEFT last year... so now me and my friend have to go through school and make fun of people for not knowing anything. sigh, it really is a hard life isnt it... and i am lucky, my parents encourage me to be on the comp, as long as i pass, they think i will be rich. lol

Euhm..people don't call me a computer geek cause i aint one..

I like computers, i can build um, i can install them..but that doesn't make you a geek, anyone can do that (at least here they can..we're not some retarded country were installing a pc will make you a smart person)

I can see how somebody looking like a biker can get into funny situation when entering a computer store lol lol.."would you please put your hands down, this is NOT a robbery" lol

Being called a geek is more linked to your frequency of talking about computers and your incompetence to talk about anything else.

If someone was bugging me all day with strictly computer stuff i'ld call him a geek.

Doomed be the geek for the images seen in his VR glasses, filling up his ram and occupying his cpu, are making him see the virtual and neglect the reality.

No, the glasses are a Geek prerequisite. No idea for the ending of the 'Blessed' logo.

How's this one?

Fear the Geeks, even when they bring gifts!

There are several levels of geek until one finally transcends to guru.
You appear to have mastered many levels young one, being able to build, maintain and network.

At this stage, the path of Geek splits into three paths
1) those who sell. They sacrifice their geekiness, morals and ethics for suits, big bucks and targets. The also "do lunch". IT treachers also come under this category - they just do it for less and have cheap cars.

2) those who maintain. These are geeks who have reached the limit of their training. This is not a bad thing as if anything goes wrong you can equip them with a screwdriver, a bag of spares and fully expect it to be working again. Just happens that it works a little faster and a little better now They also "do pizza"

3) those who create. These are the real geeks. They wrote the book on geekiness. They knew pretty much something about everything and then some. They can do the same as the maintainers, but they also create. Who are we? We are the engineers, the people who design the hardware and write the software. We also "do the pub"

UberGeeks if you will.

After you have reached the level of UberGeek, you then have to do nothing whilst mainting the illusion of doing something whilst being paid well for doing it to finally transcend into a Guru.

For my book entitled "From Nerd to Geek to Guru in 24 hours and 6 eZ steps", please send me £100 attached to a large bottle of scotch to the usual address

I just wish that there were people that would give us "young one's" a chance to improve learn more then the dull shit they teach at school open up new doors for expansion. I’m one of those people that need to constantly be learning (preferring somthin in the science and computer genre) and im running out of options that have been giving to me. I need more hands on experience hell im called every place around my area to see if let me “observe” no were sorry we cant allow you do that. The sad thing is I know just about as much or even more then some of the stupid shits they have hired. IDK

Problem is here is money talks, bullshit walks.
To teach computers you really have to know computers.
If you know computers, you can get paid much much more for working for a business than for a school.

This is also why local government loves to employ hundreds of MCSE qualified staff instead of a few people with decent experience - and stuff beyond the microsoft facade. They can't employ people who know because the wages the demand would break the government pay structure. MCSE's are cheap in comparison.

The solution is to "out-source" the IT people. My local government did this when I was working there and the quality of staff skills increased loads. But i really doubt this will ever happen in schools.

I do feel that changes need to be made to the classes that are going to be taught in the future they need to open up more courses for young adults in the future because in the future the world will be gearing more and more toward computer and electronics. And now the age for knowing about electronics and computer and hell knowledge itself is getting younger and younger

Which is why people that are self taught always seem to do much better in computer jobs than those who are trained.

Take a Linux kernel hacker coding in his room at age 13. Dude - thats age 13 and he's already writing code for a kernel! Just think what he's going to know when he gets to university! More than the teachers deffo. I just wish that I had 'net access at that age - I'd know an awful lot more than I do now. I'm computer terms I'm almost past it :/

IMO, computer courses are for people who have no interest in learning about computers. Instead they are for people who view them as a tool to do a specific job like wordprocessing and accounting speadsheets. Most computer courses are for users.

great... from spamming the off-topic to spamming the flame warzone. wait, that's a good thing. now i can flame you for it.

don't ever believe for an instant that pointless spamming is a good thing. if you spam, it has to have a point. whether it be conversational or somewhat informative, you have to have content! if you are too inept to understand, read javafox's post in the off topic forum about spamming. if you really want the posts, start a good flamewar. but don't waste my time posting worthless drivel.
