I don't know about all these problems people seem to have with SoundBlaster cards.. my 5.1 has worked great from day one. Maybe I'm just incredibly lucky. But if I am, then I guess three of my friends who have the same sound card are just as lucky, 'cause they don't have problems either.

My original SBLIVE is still working great, no complaints besides the lack of support for it. Damn why no new drivers for it??? Oh well, mine as well get an Audigy since it gets driver updates plus has the best implementation of EAX. Games like SOF2 a few upcoming titles takes advantage of EAX HD audio

A lot happens in a year......

I was offline from when nvidia and 3dfx were in battle and there was just talk of Voodoo5, Sounblaster ruled the world, nobody talked of anything else...now Aureal has gone, 3dfx has gone.. ,their SEPERIOR technology with it...and Nvidia and Creative turn into a bunch of aS##@les?

Thats big business I s`pose, but it still stinks to hell!

Default Post well well well

Thanks for pointing this thread out to me billy,

although, I will say this, i've happily had that card in 2 systems and with absolutely no problem at all. I've just upgraded to an Audigy, and *finally* got dolby digital speakers to go with it. and i must say, it is probably better than sex. Better than sex because you don't have to deal with the other emotional issues of having a girlfriend, but i wont go there.

(perhaps i could flame my ex's in the flame section, hmmm)

I build several computer systems, and it used to be a 50/50 guess whether or not I could get a SB Live or Audigy working on XP machines. I could get 4 out of 5 running fine, but it took time. Got tired of wasting time, so I started using Turtle Beach Cards. I've only had 2 not work, and they turned out to be bad cards. I've also used Phillips with no problems. I just prefer Turtle Beach... Something about the name

Default Post i like the soundblaster live...

i really like the soundblaster live, it has great linux support. but i'd have to agree
that they don't care all that much about their customers, just yesterday i tried to RMA
a soundblaster 16 PCI (a card my work bought, it was broken, they gave it to me so if i
wanted to RMA it and keep the new one i could), amuseingly creative serial numbers don't
indicate a damn thing, as their reps refused to give me an RMA number because the
proof of purchase was no where to be found (lost in the beauracracy), i wouldn't have
minded so much if they hadn't been such assholes about it. i'd have to agree that creative
doesn't give a damn about customers just the little green pieces of paper from their
wallets.

I've had in my system:

SB16 ISA - Prefect for DOS games (No EAX)
SB16 PCI - Prefect for DOS games (No EAX)
SB128 - Prefect for headphones (No EAX)
SB512 - Perfect for headphones and 2-4 speakers (Simple EAX)
SB Live! Value - Perfect EAX
SB Live Audigy Player - Perfect EAX
Hercules Game Theater XP - Shite drivers (Poor EAX compatability)
Hercules Muse XL - Shite drivers (Poor EAX compatability)
Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II - Shite drivers (Poor EAX compatability)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - Shite drivers (Poor EAX compatability)
Philips Acoustic Edge - Shite drivers (Poor EAX compatability)

I do not use speakers, i play games on headphones. I only play games, i do not use any audio editing software (which rocks on the Philips BTW). All i look for in a sound card is stuff that WORKS! I did have some problems with my Abit KT7A, but i put that down to VIA being cock suckers.
Hercules suck bad. Their cards are excellent, but the drivers leave a lot to be desired. This may have changed now since i do not have one (would figure)

Over the years of being a Sound Blaster owner, i have only had two problems. One being the VIA 686B problem, and the other being unable to run my Audigy. After a couple of hours i took it back to the shop and got the Hercules Fortissimo II to see what it was like. Played with it for a couple of weeks, and took it back and bought another Audigy. However this Audigy WORKED! Probably just had a dud in the first place...

Well I bought a Santa Cruz this past week and couldn't be happier!

Sold my Audigy Gamer for $30.00, made a friend of mine happy. I had him install the Compaq drivers so he wouldn't have any problems.

Um..Yes I have but not with Morrowind, but with JDKII. Even with the Compaq drivers it still bogged the game down any time EAX was active. I've also watched "Fourth of July" with DirectDVD 4.0 ES, which is my favorite softDVD player. Sounded great, sounded just as good on my new Santa Cruz. It's also nice to being able to browse and not get the hiccups and skips when listening to MP3's now too. Playing MP3's only 18% processor usage.
