Unstable STEAM!!!
I'm getting sooo fed up with this program. Never working. Just reinstalled the bloody proggy and STEAM wont' boot. Oh come on!!!

I re reinstalled steam and now in CSS, I have no shadows in de_cbble... wtf

Steam does little to prevent piracy (you can download the entire steam catalog and then some from valves own servers for free), its largely useless as a cheat protection, and as a nifty patch delivery system its typically far slower than a manual update from an http server (1.5mb\s? it's 2005 ffs). As far as a (terminally slow) content delivery system, I'm all for a developer getting more of the money that should be theirs by cutting out the middleman but to subject early adopters and the people that put valve where they are to such a useless system is a crime.

You could try the steam beta. just add "-clientbeta betaui" without the quotes to the end of the target line on your steam desktop icon, and next time you start steam it will install the beta. I'm not sure if this will fix your problem, but it's worth a try.
What exactly happens when you try to boot? |

Come on guys, let's not rip on Steam. I mean, after all, they have the most stable, dependable, and most importantly, working, friends network I've ever seen! XFire ain't got nothin' on you Steam.

I just installed it yesterday....and took six and a half hours to decrypt the hl2 files.....now that pissed me off. I have comcast cable by the way....1.5 mbs

Works fine here- only real complaint is:
the SLOW ASS SPEED>.. --upgrade you stingy bastards!! WTF, it is 2005 I have a 6mbit connection... give me at least 3 or 4 mbits/sec FFS.
