Tiscali....Piscali

Ive just changed to a tiscali broadband/telephone package. It is supposed to be "unlimited DL's with upto 2MB DL speed." That is, untill you start to DL anything. Within a week I get a right "snotogramme" from them saying;- " We have a fair user policy that states during the hours 6pm - 11pm you can only surf the net or read your emails and can't DL anything over 50MB, because it is unfair on the rest of their customers. If you do not refrain from your heavy internet usage we will restrict your band width."

Has anyone else come across this bollox aswell with this or anyother ISP? Is this legal? Ive noticed even before this bullsitagramme that during their so called "peak hours" ( which by the way is more like 3pm - 3am ) that my DL speeds are more like 20kbps, not the 220kbps that I have subscribed to.

I, like most people don't mind paying for a service if I get get it. But this is crazy, I know it said upto 2MB, but for fuck sake dial up would be quicker!!!!!!

It' also amazing the small print now a days its that bleeding small a diamond murchant couldn't fucking read it , with his good eye!

I've heard of similiar things happen to friends of mine, Cancel the service as soon as possible and find another. This time make sure you ask before hand if they do the same thing if their rep says they don't and they actually do you can get all your money back.

I"ve never heard of them though but by the soundsof it stay away.

well I gotta say, I'm with Tiscali and have been for years, when I moved house last year they gave me a free upgrade to 2MB , and I certainly have never had any of the problems you describe. obviously I use the internet a lot, I download heaps, and never a problem.

I'd phone them and blag your way to talking to the most senior person you can, then scream blue fucking murder at them, cos that sounds like a heap of bollocks to me

SexPistol you should get better broadband man, i have NTL 10mb p/s broadband. and its fast as hell.
But its got a 75Gb limit per month, still very good. Its not worth it to hastle with crap broadband.

DSL isn't supposed to be shared bandwidth, so

A) They're bullshitting you or
B) They just really suck

My DSL is 1MB up and 5MB down (went from 3 to 5 for free just for being a preferred customer) and I have no cap and...in the 6 years I've had it, it has gone down once. That was when we had a big blackout.

With a UPS it never, ever, goes out

Hell I'm downloading a 650MB Linux ISO right now! And its between 6 and 11!

ISO's, game patches, videos..... anything I can get my hands on.

Right now I'm getting the Knoppix Live DVD ISO (4.4GB) at 534 K/sec solid. Doesn't matter what time it is I always get that speed depending on the server

Change providers, then yell and have them refund you for the time where your service is not what it should have been.

Failing that call them bastards and threaten a meltdown in their office. That got my cable working again

I don't use P2P. I just download from websites or I use BitTorrent, which owns the hell right out of P2P programs
