BTW, for anyone running the bigger WUs (where you've setup you client to run them), DO NOT run them on mulitple cores unless you have properly setup your system as they are very demanding both CPU and memory wise. Even the FAQ recommends only running one on multi-core machines. Also, the FAQs all recommend that they not be run on non-dedicated machines as they will take a long time to run. Also, if you look at the client there is also the something called the "advanced method cores", or the "-advmethods". This switch, along with allowing for Big WUs allows you to run the QMD cores. God help you if you setup the client to run these. The QMD cores are highly complicated, and they are processed using a different method of calcuation than the other cores. Basically, they are run using a quantum chemical calculation. These cores should only be run on Intel machines that have SSE2, and plenty of ram (at least 512mb per client). So again, it's recommend you run them on dedicated machines only. Also, be sure to read the QMD FAQ on them as they mention something about not running them on AMD machines as they will be slow as hell. |

Just want to say, I'm glad so many DH'ers have come out to join such a good cause. Not only is it fun, but it's for a great cause. Keep folding guys, and if anyone reading hasn't, join up and give it a shot, its a lot of fun.

BMX I noticed you use FaHMon.. I just downloaded it myself and I'm curious if you might know why I have an orange square beside my progress % instead of a green one. You have orange as well. I read in the log it says I'm inactive but I'm clearly not and it should be green.

I dunno- I turned on FAHMON with the F@H client off.. and it is still orange. I thought it turned color the higher you got along in the WU maybe? I'll have to check that as I advance on this one.

If you are running the client/s, and the first 2 happen, you should worry.

I'm running FahMon to and sometime it goes orange here also, but after some time it goes to green automtically, so I wouldn't worry.

BTW, something about FahMon I forgot to mention is that the default update of information being displayed is done ever 5 minutes. You can change that within the preferences though to as low as 1 minute (FahMon | Preferences | Monitoring tab), or if you close than restart FahMon it will update automatically from the fahlog.
Edit: Oh, and as for the changing of the status color, most times it will change as soon as it gets, or sees an update on a completed frame. Sometimes it won't update the status until after 2 consecutive updates while FahMon is running. The best thing to do is leave FahMon running as a taskbar item.

Guys you really are doing us proud. Lets not slack off though. keep folding, and PLEASE if you are reading this and just come to DH, please join up with us. Not only will you get a chance to win an extremely sweet video card from those nice people at ATI but you are really helping progress something really benefical.
Thanks sincerely to all you guys who have joined up so far. Remember, you don't need 15 computers and its NOT a competition to get the most points, all we want is your participation. |

I recently hit a snag, my x2 3800+ machine appears to be counting down the time in a negative.... and it's giving me an error code for the core download.. just keep repeating and i haven't been able to figure out how to stop it without losing all the data and frames i finally completed (oddily WAS saying 501/500 frames completed wtf? )

I havent posted here yet, but I'm folding too(nš 102# last time I checked)! It really is great what a pc community can do when they want! And in some way I feel good by using a pc for a porpose other than selfish playing! keep the effort everybody
My folding name is DH_NAZ2222 (big surprise there ahh?) cheers

Finally finished my first WU. The second one I got has just 500 frames, compared to 20,000 for the first one, so I guess the new one will take a lot less time.

Well this pushed me to finally sign-up for the DH forum!
Still working on my first WU (as DH_Peter123) A few of questions about the contest 1. the info page didn't mention anything about being a DH forum member 2. it also didn't mention to use your forum name after the DH 3. it just mentioned "(be sure to include the initials DH in your name)" I suggest updating that page to state to be eligible people must 1) either post in this thread with the folding name (with the DH in it) OR 2) use their DH folding name with a DH_ in front of it. (or both if they want) That way there should be no confusion on who has won (or worse yet, two people claiming it was their folding name - sadly I've seen that happen in another draw...) and makes sure that it is DH forum members that participate. |

I got a problem.I went for the folding thing before this started and got a score of around 600.
I named my self hackerx and forgot to put the DH in. Is there anyway to change my name without losing the points? |

BTW, people, the beta SMP client is now up for grabs on the F@H site. Currently only 2 clients are available, and those are for 64Bit Linux (32bit is coming), and Mac OS X. If you have either of these OS, and have a dual core processor (or even a dual CPU system), be sure to check out the SMP FAQ HERE, and the DOWNLOAD page for the client. I can't wait for them to get the Windows version running.. or at the very least the 32bit Linux version going.
