Sports/Driving GOTY

2009 marks the return of the NFS franchise to its former glory. Also, it finally gave the 360 the edge over the PS3 as far as realistic racers are concerned. Other than that, the year saw smooth sailing in all sports areas, with the obvious exception of the Street Fighter franchise making a successful plunge into 3D.

Forza Motorsport 3 is in my opinion on a whole different level than the other games on the list for the amount of actual game available to play and it gets my vote.

NFS Shift is a great change away from the horrible "driving" of the last few years in the series. Finally a NFS game again where the cards do not float or drive on ice as it was the feeling. I hope the next versions in the series use this new driving model to remake some of the classics like the first one.

DiRT2 is IMO a wasted opportunity. The "series" gets more and more on rails, even though you are given the false assumption you are given more freedom. The game tries to encompass too many different types of races and it doesn't in my opinion manage to have a character of its own (driving model wise).
I wish Codemasters would go back to making proper rally games.

I can't comment on the other games on the list since I have close to zero interest in them. I still play sensible soccer.

I chose SF IV pretty good fighting game actually , Shift is a good racing game but it has a hell of issues especially on ATi cards.
Although I am not a fan of button bashing games , this one was probably the best of them.

yes street fighter is surely some game, I always remeber it for unique characters and play, But tekken is best fighting game i played.

Its amazing dirt2 is winning, I haven't even played the demo of it. guyz vote for gameplay not graphics plz.

I will vote FIFA 2010, but only for consoles. because the PC version sucks.
The reason is that it managed to improve to the level of PES, and it has more licensed teams than PES.

If PES was in the vote list I would certainly choose it , Fifa 10 PC is a total disaster , STOP porting from a console that has been out for 10 years (PS2). EA , you are morons

NFS: Shift... Perhaps not even the greatest game of the year but the fact that it was a fantastic return of the NFS franchise, after a few not so good attempts, have made this little racer cry for more like it

My vote goes to DiRT 2. I haven't been impressed w/ any NFS in many years. And I don't play any sport/fighting games

i played street fighter 4 and liked it. It's nice that capcom put all of their best character in the game and more. teh graphic is nice and game play is good. Though I feel it would be best played with a joystick.

easy choice for me: NHL 10

1) I'm a canuck
2) I love hockey
3) They sorta made it better ... I still think EA can, ya know, revamp the game next year instead of copy/pasting the code from the previous years and changing a few details!

Dirt 2 is such an amazing game, the many stages, the many cars and the amazing graphics, makes it one of the best driving games in many years, only to be beaten next year by GT5

Okay, I guess I really expected a Fighter's Category this year, I don't think it's fair to put Street Fighter IV with NFS Shift.

Tekken 6, and Street fighter IV should have their own category to battle it out in.

That said this year I nominate NFS:Shift as the winner, They changed the formula, they changed the game, they made so many "under the hood" enhancements that this doesn't even feel like NFS. It's like Gran turismo mixed with everything great about racing games, but It still gives you the need for... Speed.

This game got it right in a huge way, even though it made me relearn how to drive... hehe.

Excuse my horrible under the hood enchancements speech, I'm shamelessly punny.

I can't vote for Dirt 2 as it's just released *today*, and having to play a game before I vote on itI gotta with Shift

Yeah , NFS has changed the bad impression we got with old games in the series but EA did a good gob this time by dumping the old developer "I dunno what they took too much time to figure this out" and hiring Slightly Mad Studios to get the gob done. Great job of course but actually there are some issues and frame drops in the PC version that DH hinted at beside I am getting low fps on low setting "WTF" , I ran Grid silk smooth on high setting. They should have spent more time with optimizing the pc port really.

Tekken 6, for nostalgia reasons only. It didn't really innovate over the previous titles but Tekken 3 & Tag were simply amazing.

I guess It really boils down to hardware at some points, I never had any difficulties with my 4870, but then again.... Not everyone has great generations of hardware.

I have played hockey for as long as I can remember. Beer and hockey. It's what Canadians are good at. NHL 10 gets the nod.

i thought it was a terrible year for the racing games. NFS may have been good if it didnt run like crap on my system.

since i dont have a 360, never got to try out forza.

god, i hope polyphony puts out gt5 this coming year. i really need a good racing game again.

Nfs Shift is easily the best driving game so far this year and will certainly be in amongst the likes of Forza 3 (and possibly GT5, if it emerges) when the brake dust from 2009 settles.

Until NFS returns to it's Underground roots I won't do more than download the demo. I liked the original more than Shift to be honest.

Underground was very nice, I agree, but I think it was a refreshing break, to actually see them get that sort of racing world nailed, and actually have fun.

As for the NFS underground, it would be nice to have a Most wanted/Underground game with DX11 Graphics.

Madden 2010 Was really great this year to, but I just couldn't vote for it based on the fact it's Madden, Every year they tweak it, but it's almost the same game, year after year. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I love original games coming up with the win.
