D&DOnline is it just me?
I went out and bought D&DOnline tonight, got it home, tried to install it, but my CD Drive won't recognize it. I had this same problem when I tried to play the preorder beta CD. It spins a few times then stops, the install screen never starts up. I remember taking the beta CD over to a friends house and it worked in his DVD drive...I know there's nothing wrong with my CD drive. Would they really make the game only usable to people with DVD drives?? Has anyone with only a CD drive been able to install the game? If so, any tips on what I could do to get it to work?

I would recommend checking with your game manufacturer. One minute and I was able to find two decent solutions. Good Luck!

This may be all too obvious, but, are you sure you got a CD version of the game and not a DVD version? If you got a DVD version, is your drive a DVD drive or only a CD drive? If it's only a CD drive, it will not read your DVD game disk.

Thanks for the link. I'm downloading the client now.
You know how it says "right click on My Computer on your desktop. Left click on Properties, go to Performance, File System, and then finally CD-ROM / DVD-ROM" I right click mycomputer, go to properties, then to Advanced, then to Performance and click settings, but it's only giving me visual options to change, like show shadows under menues. How do I get to the screen File System/CD-ROM screen using winXP? |

You're right! I just looked on the box and it says PC DVD ROM!!
![]() I'll try it from the download client. Thanks for pointing that out. I never even thought to look at that. Why the hell would they only make it DVD?! |

Computers have been shipping with dvd drives for the past 6 or more years so I guess they figure they've penetrated enough.
How is DDO? I played the beta but didn't like how you had to group to get anything done (an mmo pet peeve of mine). I'd assume they're staying true to the tabletop game and this didn't go away, but you never know.

I got into beta but was never able to get the game to work past the character creation screen. I found out I was missing some sound drivers, but by then beta had ended. I did a reinstall of windows and everything seems to be restored, so now I'm curious to see if it actually works.
Just from reading the beta boards alot of people were saying what you've said, it's a game geared toward grouping, not enough solo content. They also said it was too repetative and the world was too confined. It sounds like a bunch of instanced missions over and over. I'll know soon hopefully. Probably a waste of $50 but I need something to get me by till Vanguard comes out! |

I got it downloaded last night, installed, created a character, started to log into the world and my screen froze up, game crashed, same problem I had with the beta. I'm at my wits end. I'm ready to throw my computer off the balcony again lol.

It could be that it's because my video card and linksys wireless card are on the same IRQ. That theory was never tested. I'll try running it straight from the wall.
Ok I tried that but it's still freezing up right as I get into the world. I still have the linksys card installed along with it's drivers and it shows up in the IRQ list in spot 16. My video card is on 16 also. I thought if I just ran it from the wall then it wouldn't matter whether the linksys was there or not? So I guess the next test should be completely uninstalling the linksys card and the driver... Just tried that, game still freezes up as I log in............................!!! I ordered a new nvidia 6600gt agp card from tigerdirect the other day. When it gets here I'm going to reformat my whole damn comp again, install everything from scratch and if that doesn't work I give up. I've got an nvidia 5200FX card right now, it's borderline ancient but I used it with this exact same set up to play EQ2 running thru my linksys card and wireless router, and it worked great. If you have any extra pci slots available, try moving the wireless card to another slot. Usually the AGP slot shares an IRQ with one of the pci slots. Sometimes this is marked on the board.
Another word of advice. If your motherboard has a built in NIC and you are not using it, make sure to disable it in the BIOS. This will free up additional IRQ's. Also, disable any other motherboard features you are not using in the BIOS. For instance. If you are not using the serial ports, etc. |

I just finished a fresh reinstall of windows, I'm installing windows updates now.
I tried moving the wireless card to my other open slots but it only works in that one slot. I'm not sure if my mb has built in nic or not. The box says: P4 Titan 865PE fsb800 dual channel ddr400 agp8x I'm not familiar enough with this stuff to know what to turn off or not. I don't use my DVD drive or my floppy drive. If I unplugged those would that change anything? |

What manufacturer is your Motherboard? Gigabyte, MSI, or what?
Also, the easiest way to determine if your system has onboard LAN (NIC) is to look for a connector slot that will likely be located near the USB connections. AND, one thing about removing and switching NIC cards physically is that Windows XP doesn't 'like' to let these go. I"ve had some very frustrating times trying to change IP addresses manually and Windows XP warns me that, even though the NIC is no longer plugged into the system, the IP address is still assigned. That may be one reason that your NIC card seems to only want to work in this particular PCI slot. I'd be kind of surprised if the mobo doesn't have onboard LAN, though. Most boards came out with it beginning a few years ago. So, be sure to check that out. Oh, and I don't think we need to worry about the DVD drive or Floppy drive. At least not for now. |

I'm going to get my 6600gt video card tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm gonna to try to install it in one of the open slots and see if that works. Hopefully it will be on a different IRQ. It might just be my 5200fx is fried, I used it for SWG, EQ2 and alot of other stuff. I've had it for 4 or 5yrs now. If that doesn't work I can at least rule it out.

Personally, I would not have reinstalled windows to try and resolve an IRQ conflict. My bet is that you have every feature on your mobo enabled and that will use up additional IRQ's that could be used for other things. Not to mention that, as I mentioned before, the AGP slot does normally share an IRQ with an adjacent PCI slot.
Remember, if you are unsure as to what the bios options are you can feel free use Google. Also, look up your motherboard on the manufacturers site and obtain the manual and print it out. This will give you detailed information on what your bios options are. Anyway, good luck! |

I found the poster of my motherboard in the box, it's a life size print. I also found a pic online of it here: http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Gigabyte...VkBHNsawNjb21wSo I've got 1 agp slot which my video card is in, and 5 pci slots. From the agp slot, my wireless card is in the 4th pci slot, (or 1 up from the last). That's the only slot it has worked in.
Ec, you're saying the agp usually shares an IRQ with a pci slot, so it sounds like you don't think that's the problem. I had this same set up running EQ2 and it worked fine, so I don't really think it's the IRQ's either. The mb does have Onboard LAN. I'm still waiting on the new video card to get here. |

I checked the tracking on my video card, it's going to come tomorrow. I'm going to unplug my floppy and dvd drives because I never use them. I don't know if that will open an IRQ or not. Then I'm going to put the new vid card in and reinstall XP from scratch. Is there anything wrong with having all features on the mb turned on, what should I turn off?

YES!!! It was the video card. I got the 6600gt today, just installed it, and tested everything, all is good. Videos are playing fine and I logged into DDO for the 1st time! I just ran around for a few minutes.
It was the video card for sure because I took the old one out and rebooted, then while it was out I tried playing some videos thru the onboard mb display, and they worked fine. The old card was really dusty too, the fan had alot of stuff in it. It was probably overheating or just fried completely. Damn I'm glad I found out what was up, that was driving me nuts! ![]() Thanks all for your help/info. Graphics with this new card look sweeeeet! |

That's good to hear! I also have a 6600GT OC. Not a bad card.
