SecuROM Strikes Again!!!
This is getting very disgusting!
I tried starting up my F.E.A.R. from DVD a little while ago and I'm getting that: Wrong Disk Inserted...... error message. I've checked the PIO vs. DMA settings and they're all right. I've also gotten the latest Firmware version for my DVD drive. Anyone have any other suggestions for correcting this? Thx! |

yeah, my bro tried loaing it on his Alienware laptop and it completely crashed his system. It could not reboot and when he tried to restore it the damn thing would freeze. So alienware told him that takin his RAM out and puttin it back in would help. So he did so and it worked.
I figured out F.E.A.R. is bad. |

Well, I actually finished the game on this very computer a couple months ago. Nothing much has changed since then. I did do a firmware update on the DVD drive.
In my FEAR folder there's a text file that shows the CD Key and it matches perfectly to what is on the CD Sleeve. AND, I'm not trying to play from a copy of the DVD. This the original one. The Bonus Content plays fine. It just won't start the game due to this 'Wrong Disk Inserted' popup screen. One thing that was mentioned on the support site was that this problem can occur if the drive is going bad. I actually have a suspicion that that may be the case. It's taking over a minute...sometimes a couple of minutes....to actually get a DVD recognized to the point that it can be accessed. So, it really could be the drive is faulty. |

Got a link? EDIT: Just started up SC:CT from this drive without any problem. May have to just uninstall FEAR and see if it reinstalls and runs.

Maybe the new patch hooped your install. You could always try gamecopyworld for a no cd patch.

Also, MegaGames has patches as well. EDIT: So far, there's no patch for the latest 1.03 version.

Here's an update:
I saved my profile and saved games and uninstalled the game. Once I rebooted, I reinstalled the game and it started up just fine. Saw all the Intro movies and such. Then, once it started I got a prompt that there was an updated version. I opted to download this updated version directly from Sierra using the ingame updater. Once it updated, I'm back to where I was in the first post: Wrong Disk Inserted. Sierra needs to fix this! |

Finally!!! Found a Patch that fixes the 'unable to initialize disk' problem!
It's working now.

Its problems like this that have won me over to the STEAM based distribution model. I can honestly say I've never had a problem with any STEAM game since day 1.
I realise a persistent internet connection for most games is probably a bit onerous for people living in remote locations / stuck w/ 56.6...its a pity.

BUT, I have the zipped file and it's 5.88 MB. If anyone needs it, send me a PM with your email addy and I'll be glad to send it along. If I can dig up the link for it, I'll edit this post to share it. |
