playstation 2 usb uses

what are the uses of the usb ports on the ps2? is it just for internet/mic or could it work on a pc monitor or etc? i'm getting a monitor w/ some usb ports and was just wondering if i could use the usb on the ps2 for the monitor too

i think the USB ports are used for specialty controllers like wheel/pedal setups and joysticks mostly
