!!! I just picked this up at Best Buy with a Creative X-Fi Platinum, just got the card installed time to install the game! I'll post some comments here soon.

BTW the Best Buy in Grandville MI has the DVD edition up on the shelves

Comes with a map of NYC in it, manual, a 10 buck off coupon for The Godfather DVD set, and that beloved security sticker stuck to a white piece of paper. It also comes in that wonderful double wide DVD case with a free floating disk we all know and love...*smirk*.

Here is 3 codes EA sent me for registering the game/filling out a survey.

Go to the Pause Menu (by pressing ESC) and, using the keyboard, type:
FULL HEALTH -- corleone
FULL AMMO -- stracci
$5000 -- cuneo

Go to the Load Game menu and, using the keyboard, type:
UNLOCK MOVIES -- tattaglia

Only running a 9800XT so we'll see how it goes, let me see if I can figure out how to take them. Where does prtscn save to?

On a side note the voice acting is great, the controls are a bit jerkey but then again I'm not all that used to 3rd person control. On the PC here it lets you control it via mouse, keyboard, game pad, all at the same time or separately which is kind of nice for those of us that can't figure out what control system we like the best.

The game has the "feel" of GTA with the running around and freedom I think you eventually get. Then it reminds me alot of "Mafia". Right now I'm working for "Luca" after Vito sent him to find me, and I'm now under his wing. You have GOT to play the prologue when you first get this game, it so sets the mood.

This paragraph alone has me very excited. Mafia was probably my all time favourite game (I beat it 3 or 4 times because I loved it so much). I doubt anything will ever touch that title again and ive been waiting for Mafia 2 for years, so hopefully godfather captures the feeling of playing that game again !

I still play Mafia to this day and love it, but Godfather's graphics are worse than Mafias. The cars look like lego in and have barely any damage characteristics. Character models are nice though especially with the design your own look.

Do you guys remember driving over the Guliani bridge in Mafia, it had potholes and your car would bounce around, all very detailed. Similar bridge in Godfather has no detail at all and is surrounded by walls (WTF).

Am I the only one pissed about the misleading advertising for this game?

It's too early to say much since I only did a few of the missions before I punched a mafia guy and they all started shooting at me and I had to run off.

The combat system is great though, you use the left and right click for swinging and can grab or choke people to death. I beat one guy to death right in front of a crowd and they all just stood there as if nothing happened

Mazuko has the 9800XT and he didn't post screens yet. I have an X800XL and there were no graphical anomolies the game runs smoothly too. I've seen more screens and they look just like mine.

I'll post back tomorrow with some more impressions don't worry I won't spoil anything.

No, everything does. I drove all around the city and couldn't believe how low quality the textures are. Even the character models are kinda ugly it's just the faces that have all the detail so you can really recognize the actors in the movie. I'll post some screens at 1600x1200 max AA/AF in a bit.

I still haven't figured out how to take screenies. However I just installed my Creative X-Fi card and the game has hard locked the system 3 times. I uninstalled drivers and re-installed my audigy 2 zs and no glitches. Could be a problem w/ the x-fi card and hte game.

As you can see it is more or less a PS2 port.

I picked up a copy, the game seems quite reminiscent of mafia although graphically its worse which is hard to believe considering the age of mafia. just goes to show how far advanced mafia was when it was released. As for the gameplay hard to tell right now as ive only just started it. Quite irritated at the lack of support for widescreen monitors, ill have to poke around and see if its hackable.

Yeah ive a few cards here, and the one im using is a X1900XTx and it looks basically just like yours. ive maxxed everything out in the options, aniso and AA. it looks like its using shader model 1. The frame rate is insane at 1600x1200, is this good though? well looking at the graphical detail, no wonder.

Appalling graphics really for a newly released title, i reinstalled mafia and it totally wipes the floor with it graphically. In the defense of the godfather, Mafia was quite groundbreaking when it was released, still I expected more. The game seems quite decent but its certainly not a patch on the movement of mafia and those of you thinking it handles like GTA will be sorely disappointed.

Ya when I was shooting the cop I was like WTF are you kidding me?! The mouse is about as sluggish as a gamepad. Mafia is a dream in comparison especially the shooting.

the sad thing is I was so hyped for this game when I saw the screenshots on some of the sites. I cant really tell you guys how much Mafia meant to me as a game. I have so many good memories of that title its hard to describe! the whole immersion factor. the map design, the characters, the movement. I spent about 2 years on and off playing that game. As I said its still my No1 game of all time and have been waiting with baited breath for V2 for years now, I dont think its going to happen though

Graphics dont necessary make a good game, but this is only a part of the problem of the godfather, the movement is jerky, the running speed isnt right, his legs dont move right, he doesnt turn fluidly. the graphcs are simply quite appalling. However all negatives aside, the game looks like it might be semi ok and the voice acting is top notch....... but I am having a real hard time playing it as I keep comparing it to mafia, its just a pale comparison

I still think mafia was so damn underrated even to this day. A total classic.

Im very disappointed........

I hear ya. I kept telling my friends about scenes in Mafia like the rainy shootout on a farm, or assassination on a steamboat, robbing a bank , or at the airport...the list goes on and on. Immersion is what matters and the graphics need to be relevant to todays technology. When Mafia came out it barely ran on my Geforce2 and even a year later still was sluggish on a 9700pro. Now that game truly shines with everything maxed out.

Still, I won't judge it based solely on the graphics. Vice City for PC isn't exactly wonderful to behold but it looks about the same as Godfather and could be as much fun.

I couldnt agree more. Any gamer who HASNT played Mafia is missing one of the most immersive, story driven games ever. Every section was just amazing. I also agree with your views on graphics. A title doesnt need to be state of the art graphically, but hell it sure doesnt help when a 4 year old title outshines a new release on a technological level.

Hopefully if I can block out the flat lifeless textures, substandard movement, incredibly poor cars, and the awful city scape I can recapture 10% of the mafia experience. If i can, then it will still be great.

I for one also think that the controls are sub standerd. This is what happens to games that are built to run on consoles and then gets ported to the pc. The game is frikin huge, and since this game is meant for like xbox and ps2, the graphics need to look like crap.

I guess im just spoiled, I look at the xbox 360 and think my 9800 pro still beats it in some cases... lol

Well I've played a bunch of Missions (just killed some cop) and already am bored of the city. Every single street looks the same and feels claustrophobic. I swear its more like a labyrinth than New York. The combat system is still cool cause you can throw people all around and finish em off with brutal death animations.

Heck, there are even hookers with manners! If you thought "hot coffee" was controversial wait till you see these dames winking at you and promising to go on a date with you sometime. Good Job EA this one is safe for the church folk.
