Ok, for x800, x850 users, how did you manage to run the game at 1280x1024 with decent framerates? I get 15-30 outside,most of the time 15. AA and AF are off, I have bloom on. Can someone post his settings? I really want to play at this resolution, as it is my LCDs native resolution, but don't want set anything to low, ad then the game doesen't look spectacular...

I play witth everything on high with no AA or AF and i stay between 40-60 FPS

I have my Venice clocked to 2.7Ghz and my X850XT clocked in at 585/600

Well, because I'm sending the gameplay to video I'm playing the game at 1024x768. If I don't, then I won't capture the entire screen.

One thing you should try is to make sure you have V-Sync ON. I've played a lot of games with it OFF. But, after reading a lot of info about it, I tried it and I see a nice boost in performance. Just make sure you have it set to something like 75 - 100....whatever your monitor can support at that particular res.

Also, if you're using 3rd party drivers e.g. Omega's make sure that AA and AF are turned off in any apps included like ATT. If you don't, those settings will likely override anything you set in the game.

I have the grass to the max, because I edited the oblivion.ini and made the grass alot scarcer.

beat the main quest line last night, took me 3 days of continous play (ty spring break

)
so about 35 hours, the only thing I really got tired of was closing all these oblivion gates, got a bit repetitive.
now to have fun with the rest of the game, theres a rediculess amount more still to be done.
i can upload a video of some pretty visuals at the end of the main quest if anyone wants to see (spoilers to the max of course though ;/)

o btw, I beat it as a level 12 theif

35 hrs is pretty long considering that doesn't include any sidequests or guild quests.

This type of game can be as short or long as you choose it to be. If you go only for the main objectives, you'll miss out on a whole lot of cool stuff.

I'm sure that the game can be beaten even faster now that someone knows where all the main objectives are. But, IMHO, that misses the entire enjoyment of the game.

Just my 2 cents.

That's the whole thing with elder scrolls though. To tell you the truth, i've still never finished morrowind. I've put at least 300hrs into it, but for me the game was about exploring and completing guild quests, and stealing from people.

well... the door back out locked behind me, and there is one VERY pissed off dead king summoner. he can kill me in one hit, even if its blocked...

Unless someone has done some backward engineering, I believe this is the current state of cards supporting HDR:

The only video cards currently compatible with HDR are the Nvidia GeForce 6 series and above and the ATI x1000 series.

except for HL2s case. i think any DX9 card supports it, it just runs like crap on anything lower then an x800.

as for the dead king.... head dead again. i just broke every freaking weapon i had, shot all my arrows, and sent probably 100+ fire bolts at him. my reward? a HUGE crystal that i cant seem to do anything with right now.

Where's Almsivi or Divine Intervention when you need them, huh?

(For the uninitiated, those were Morrowind spells you could cast that would give you a quick escape from certain death in situations like this.)

I've also found a really, really tough one down south of Chorrol. I'm trying to find a lost daughter who didn't return from a trip to deliver goods. I've arrived at the town to find it burned out and everyone missing.

i think im the worst lockpicker ever i seem to strugle on easy ones lol with 1 tumbler but im pressistant the avarage and hard and very hard and impossible for me, you got any idea`s where to buy loads of lockpicks LOL
as im struggleing to find any and when i do its usally from someone who only have 1 lol

u have to watch it, wait for it to go up slowly, u can kinda predict after a while when it will go up slowly. You can also use the auto pick button. U need to join the thieves guild then go to ur fence in bruma he has like 70 I think to start and refills. They are like 6 $ each.

That's what I've been trying to do....without a whole lot of success so far.

Also, I've been looking to join the Thieves' Guild ever since I started this game. So far, that's been a total failure, too.

On another note, I just got the game installed for my daughter-in-law who tried it first on the XBOX 360 at my son's store. She HAS to have this game even if she needs to upgrade her system...which she'll need to do if she wants the niceties that are included.

However, I did get it installed and running fairly decently by installing my old 9600 Pro in her system and reducing the game to 800x600 with all the settings turned down. It actually was playing very nicely for her. She got through the tunnels to the first Zombie and a bunch of rats and the game never missed a beat.

The rest of her system is really out-dated: ABIT TH-7 using RAMBUS with only 256 MB of system RAM and a P-4 478 1.4 GHz CPU. Using her ATi 8500 w/64 MB RAM, it actually did start up but was really sluggish....although it would have been playable. Just very, very slow loading times. When I put the 9600 Pro in, it made a big difference in load times.

Well....on to the game....

did you ever play arena? it is FAR longer. i only collected 4 out of the 8 pieces of the staff, and that was with a good 200-300 hours in.

Allright, I joined the thieves guild by chance because I was wandering around the waterfront. At the right time of night, no one told me anything about it (like townspeople or beggars). Ok go to the water front and go through the doorway opposite of that pirate ship. as soon as u go down the stairs make a left. now go to the end and use the wait button to be there at 12 at night. He will ask you to get a book and you will be competing with 2 other thieves. There you go. Also Oblivion looks like what I would expect hell to look like lol.

I joined the fighters guild as i can't figure out where to go for the main quest. I suck to bad at thiefery to get into the theives guild.

You can -- and should -- join more than one Guild.

And, joining the thieves guild will provide you better tools for the job.

I had to stop and share this little experience I just had. There are some places where things happen and I nearly laugh myself out of my chair. For some reason, this was one of them:

I'm presently in an abandoned fort and there are multitudes of Skeletal Minions. In some rooms there are floor sections that, if anyone steps on them, they shoot up real quickly into a roof full of spikes above. I've enticed several of these skeletons to 'rise to their destruction' in this particular area.

Then, I've gone to a new area where the floor section DROPS instead of rises.

Here, there's a skeleton archer and I cast my own summon skeleton to take him on.

Well, they both confronted one another on this drop floor and my skeleton with his battle axe took a swing at the skeleton archer just as the floor dropped. What happened next was the laugher:

My skeleton got the archer right at the neck and chopped his head off just as the floor dropped. Well, the archer's skull stayed 'afloat' a second or so after the rest of them disappeared. Then it dropped, too. It was so comical I wish I'd been capturing video at the time.

Hopefully, you get the picture. It just looked so cool!!

question about the magic though. do you learn new skills as you level up, or do you gain them from books and shrines?

so far im level 3 with 1 destruct magic, regen magic, and 2 greater powers, one of which was found from a shrine in the woods.

Well, generally speaking, as you level up you do get better. As your skills improve you are able to acquire more and better magic and spells.

One way to get this faster is through training. So, if you're in the mage guild, for instance, go to a guild master and seek some training. Some provide specialty training so be sure you get the one that trains for what you're looking for.

Then, be sure to click on the books whether you read them or not. Some books DO give you a skill increase and you won't know which unless you at least click on them. You don't have to keep the book or even read it to gain the knowledge or skill.

And, of course, you can buy spells, potions, and what not from various ones around.
