Regarding the lock picking.. I finally gave up on trying to manually do 3 or 4 pins by hand and decided to use the 'auto pick' key at the bottom. MUUUCH better.. you might go though a few picks before it works.. but in the long run, it will save you A LOT of picks. You also can built up your lockpicking skill too.

Those of you who have joined the Thieves Guild: Were you told you had to wait on others before the guy could begin?

Yes, I was told that not everyone was present and I'd have to wait. It took three nights before we all showed up at the same time. Now, I'm in a contest to steal something before the others do in order to be inducted into the guild. |

I sat with this game for 5 hours last night and I have to say it really is pretty spectacular. im really not into the geeky genre (no offense to others who are), as I really cant sit and talk in extreme detail about orcs and things and damage points and methods of levelling up....... but it really is quite a fun title indeed. worth playing just for the graphics tbh. my pre order of the xbox 360 version arrived today also so ill be firing that up for a look.
Id also recommend this game to people who dont normally like this genre, if you stick with it for an hour and get over the "WTF is going on" factor, it is extremely fun. |

It kinda sucked me in and I'm loving it now, but it's damn easy to stray from the main objective and start going on other quests all the time.

Well finished Main Quest. Pretty good except the ending reminded me of the ending of wing commander 5, if you ever played it you know what I mean. The main story isnt all that impressive. The sidequest are better. But the game is fun nontheless and I will say its way better then morrowind. The new engine is really great and a breathe of fresh air. Everything looks real, if I had a better card probably make me feel like I was living the dream. Time to reformat, 2 months are up and it's cleaning time. There are some bugs that make you re-load the game to fix them, and some speech glitches that are off sync.
I wish this game wasnt such a videocard slut, but I can understand why. Probably my last post here, unless I have severe a system problem or another cool game comes out. Thanks for your help all .

What I've found about the sidequests is the truelly got creative. Like they probably were thinking of some of the ideas while they were wasted. Yeah... I didn't sleep last night because I kept telling myself I was then I found a glass sword and bow (for those who don't know, Glass in the elder scrolls series is like the best thing you can find). I would u know, beat the main quest, its just clanfear scare the crap out of me, cause I'm a little wood elf and everyone is taller than me. But nothing is better then launchin an arrow at you enemy and bending them in half.
Also would like to add they refer to morrowind a lot. And truthfully I hate RPGs, I almost always hated em but there are 3 I like. KOTOR, Morrowind, and Oblivion |

![]() However, my son could probably quote you chapter and verse on every single spell, potion, weapon, etc. as he's been at this since he was 10 or so. It is he who is most responsible for even getting me involved in this genre of game. He gave me Dungeon Siege as a gift. Although I didn't really enjoy that game, it did start getting me interested in all the aspects of using majicka and such. I've also lost a lot of hours with NeverWinter Nights. I enjoy that one because the plot and story is so well done. But, for my own interests, being able to go into a game in FPV and seemingly be 'in the game' is more attractive than watching 'little people' move around on the screen. Even after playing so many hours....or was it MONTHS....in Morrowind, I'm still not quite familiar with mixing potions, and using alchemist skills and such like that. But, I do like 'hand to hand' and being able to cast some spells to give me a little help with the fight. If you do continue playing, be sure to join all the guilds possible. Some of these side quests are too interesting to overlook. Later, D.S. |

Rare items
Hi,
I am a bit worried that there are no rare or unique items in this game. That the loot sucks. Is that so? Thanks, Anders |

There isn't very much to steal when u start out but its a means to afford things and get by. From my plundering of dungeons I got me enchanted flaming glass claymore of doom + my enchanted glass bow of doom (that was in one dungeon).
I'm uploading some pictures now so I'll try to get them on in a bit |

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend a good place to get some high level soul gems (I've only found one Varla to date), or some place that I can get my weapons recharged?

Calindil, the guy that owns Mystic Emporium in the first city, sells soul gems (thanks for letting me know about the Mages Guild, GD). Most of the ones he sells are Grand, Common, and Petty Soul Gems. The soul gems you need are the ones that actually have a soul bound to them. If they contain no soul, then they are useless (unless there is a way to bind a soul to them.. haven't figured out how to though). The more common souls you will see bound are Petty and Lesser souls.
To recharge a weapon, purchase/find a soul gem with a bound soul. Then, go into your inventory, and select the farthest right icon (Miscellaneous). Click on the soul gem, and a menu will pop up of all the items that can be recharged, as well as the amount of charge the soul gem will recharge it (Petty souls will recharge for 150 points). |

Well normally your supposed to use a spell. But I found the Umbra sword along with the Umbra set of ebony Armor (unfortunately took about 30-40 elven arrows with a glass bow at level 16 to bring that sucker down). If you can find it, she's in the elven shrine sw of the imperial city. Starts with a V. If you can kill that person the sword automatically entraps the soul of the thing you kill with it. If ur not like lvl 20 or uber sneaky don't even bother, one slash will rip you apart.

Aha! I FINALLY got into the Thieves Guild! And, it was on the first try, too.
But, I had to prove I was a better thief.

I've done a lot in this game so far in terms of different paths. I'm in the Blades, Mages Guild, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and the list goes on and on. A few things I've noticed on the annoying side.
1. I feel like this game was still rushed. I mean I am happy I can play it, I just think bethesda really still wanted to wait a little more to fix some graphic and sound glitches (hearing voices clear as day through stone walls anyone?) 2. While I really love the fact that you can now do instant travel, I really wish they would have compensated for vampires. Nothing is more annoying than transporting someplace and when the screen loads I start dying because it's daylight. 3. Yeah, I really haven't seen much in terms of loot to steal. In Morrowind, being born under the birthsign of the shadow came in handy for stealing stuff like glass armor from shops. But now, I feel like that birthsign is almost worthless. |

Regarding All That Useless LOOT!!!
OK, everyone, bear with me:
I have discovered a very good use for a lot of that seemingly senseless stuff that you find in the crates, cupboards, barrels and whatnot. I know I'm a little slow on the run these days as I've been so enthralled with the game and getting from hither to yon that I've barely taken time to think about a lot of things that can be done in the game. Here's what can be done with a lot of the things you find: Early in the game, grab a mortar and pestle, calcinator, and such and begin to think about Alchemy. ![]() From your inventory select one of these....doesn't matter which one....just pick one to get you started. Now, once you have selected one of these, start adding Ingredients. Each of the ingredients that come up will, in turn, show some affects. Try to select some generally related ones but it doesn't really matter at this time. Once you have mixed all these ingredients together, give your new potion a name that will help you identify it. Then click on the Create option at the bottom and, voila! you've made a new potion and, maybe even perhaps, got a boost in your alchemy skill level. ![]() Now, saying that you created a new potion that does damage, HOW do you get it to do the affect on your opponent? Well, those of us that have gone through the painting got a little taste of this. Just APPLY the potion to your weapon and the weapon becomes POISONED. So, when you strike your opponent, they become affected by the poison you put on your weapon. This should get you started in the right direction if this kind of thing appeals to you. AND, believe me, you'll want to do as much damage as you can to some of these high level opponents as you go through the game. How about using those poisoned arrows, huh?
