So is this game worth it? Even if you don't normally play this type of game? Looking at some of the screens it looks stunning... It is amazing how much buzz it's getting.

After looking at some of those screens.. I need to see this.

Here's a nice one for you.

For those that have done some of the Bruma missions there is one in particular that had me a little.. scared. Not to give anything away, but there is a sort of murder mystery, backstabbing, type mission that you have to solve (this is the best way to describe it without giving away anything, but anyone that has done the mission will remember it). Near the end you have to deal with a certain person, but doing so would piss off Bruma's Guards (at least, that's what I thought). Instead of dealing with this person I ran (like a little sissy) back into Bruma just to "see" what would happen. Sure enough, this person ran after me, but what happened next is something I didn't expect: the Bruma Guard attacked and killed him (rather quickly too IMA). To my surprise this updated my quest stats, and I basically finished the quest without lifting a virtual finger. I stripped the poor guy naked of his wares, and with the guard looking down at the body I went on my merry way.

Now the fun part. I went back to Bruma to get my weapons recharged by the Mages there, and to finish off another quest when something caught my eye: the body of the person was still there. Just to see what would happen I reloaded a save close to that quest, and reran it, this time killing the person outside of Bruma. Sure enough, the body disappeared, when I left the area, never to be seen by a living soul again (I figure the wolves got him).

At any rate, I just find it funny. Everytime I go back to Bruma there is this persons body, lying face first in the dirt, completely naked wth the exception his britches... and a guard standing there looking down at the poor bugger with a very odd look on his face.

If I get time I'll post a pic. Bug? Maybe, but if it is, it's a very morbid one.

Well for me, i've been looking forward to this game for almost 2 years. As a die hard morrowind fan, this is heaven for me. But looking past my bias toward the series, i'd have to say yes, even if you don't normally play this type of game, it is that good that you owe it to yourself to give it a go. There's so many things to do and different ways to play through the game that it will be hard pressed to not attract some interest from you.

And i'm taking back my opinion earlier in the thread about the interface. After getting better acquainted with it, I think the menu system in this game is far better than morrowind.

and....nice one digerati, that comic was priceless

Agreed, I'm used to the changes now, and I actually like them. The journal system is infinitely better, and adds to the game. I find the game chalanging, but not frustrating (too often at least). I like that it adjusts difficulty with your level. I know many complain about this, but it makes the game more enjoyable to me. I've seen a lot of gripes about the game, I think most are unfounded. Sure I have my gripes, but people are making mountains of mole hills. The game is brilliant, yes it's not Morrowind (it's better), but it is a brilliant game that anyone can enjoy.

Its too bad that when game gets hyped as much as this did, it ruins it for some people. If this game was released with little fan-fair, little press pumping, etc. I think the critics would be singing a different tune. Point being, if people would stop the nit-picking, they would realize what an amazing game it is (best example I read was a guy, who was an avid Morrowind fan, took Oblivion back because he didn't like the new Inventory system...?)

This is the best game I've ever played, I'm taking my time, enjoying every quest, and loving the experience, just as I did with Morrowind and the expansions.

This new interface definitely has taken some getting used to.

One thing, though, that I wish they'd have incorporated was a quick key system much like NWN. In that game, you can assign many more quick keys by using a Shift and/or CTRL key to bring up other selections. Simply put, I find it too limiting to only be able to have 8 quick key slots.

Hahaha!

I found a nice tall rock to climb up onto and then used my Poisoned Long Sword to chop them up.

Also, in one of the earlier levels I I had to kill this 300 year old vampire for the thieves guild. He was supposed to be dead but it turned out he wasn't... so anyway as soon as I turn around he is right there with an ebony claydmore and full daedric body armor. So I ran out of the house and into the street. There were about 5 guards who fought him and they eventualy took him down. Man that guy had so many arrows in him.

Lowfat, the best way to get awsome items in go into caves.

You can only kill wisps and ghosts with magic weapons. I've reached lv 18 and have all but the last fight at the arena. I want to complete the Prince Quest before I 'think' I'll be fighting him in the arena.

I've finally got some spending money.. $20,000. I've been bringing back all the loot from dungeons (sometimes 3 trips due to not being able to carry it all!) and selling it to the nice lady next to the Inn. She's also trained me to the max and I've had to find a master trainer to get my EXPERT heavy armor skill. Niiice.

I've found that by moving the difficulty slider only a little bit down has made it a lot more fun to fight too.

Maybe I should get around to starting the main quest?.. nawww

I learned this little tactic in Morrowind with the Levitation use of the Wizard's Staff. I knew when they said that levitate was out of Oblivion, I'd have to figure out another way to get 'high'.

hehehe i used to love that staff in morrowind. I actually had 2 or 3 of them so i never ran out of flying juice In this game, at least in my early levels, i shoot most things down with my bow, and when/if they get close, i have a touch damage spell (right now of the cold and shock variety) that the baddies get a little taste of.

Yes, with my sneak skill as high as it is, I'm sneaking into places with my bow at ready. Then, as soon as I see a baddie I cast my Skeleton Summons and then shoot the baddie and get a 3X sneak attack bonus. Often, I can actually get another 3X sneak attack with the bow because they're focused on my skeleton summons.

Then, I can switch to my enchanted blade or weapon and commence the hand-to-hand.

It's been working quite well so far.

you get 4X damage with a blade I do believe. Although it is likely a lot more difficult to sneak up that close.

Early on I was getting 2X damage with sneak blade attacks. I haven't run out of arrows yet.

you could fix that in morrowwind with the ` key, can't remember the command. I am sure it was brought to this game as well.

Supradog is on a distinguished road

Yes, you get that bonus when attacking from stealth at stealth level 25 or 50.
at skill level 75 you get the same detection rate if you sneak fast and slow.
at skill level 100 sneak attack ignores armor.

The skill level 100 bonus is currently broken people are claiming and so some guy made a mod where the sneak damage scales instead. 8x melee / 4x ranged at 50, 10x melee / 5x ranged at 75 and 12x melee / 6x ranged at 100.

imho the melee bonus is abit too big, but the ranged one is pretty balanced.

Alien1 is on a distinguished road

Well Distant ground textures do not look so nice even in the highest settings
I am little dissappointed from that graphic perspective

Of course right now i have only a X800 series card and not anything new and flashy as a graphic card yet

and i had 1 or 2 game crashes while playing ??
Strange..Maybe it's the 3D Audio that i choose to enable from the game Audio options conflicting with my X-Fi card

Just use the terpentine the guy gave you, there is just enough to kill all the trolls so long as you dont miss. Have your weapon out, click on the terpentine, and hit the troll (or shoot them). One hit kills them.

I don't really need the bonus though myself. At my level people bend in half with one or two shots. I always try to shoot them in the head because it looks better.

I poisoned my long sword with turpentine, climbed up on a high rock where they couldn't reach me and whacked the daylights out of them.

lol, I found my first giltch. Well it turns out after doin the vampire quest and getting cured if you talk to the count about a reward he will keep giving you 7,500 gold everytime you talk to him. So now I have 9 million gold : ). I was already quite rich already but the reason I did overdo the clitch was because of the cost to enchant things. Now I can start making my weapons of doom hahahaha
