Problem with 3D outout in Guild Wars
Hi I am not sure I am in the right forums for this but if I'm not plz move this topic.
I have a ATI radeon 9200 card, with 256 mgs of Ram, and have directX 8.0 installed. Ive recently been away from my PC for a month or two and I wanted to update my video driver, so I did and every thing seemed to go smooth. Then I started the game Guild Wars and before it could start I had a message saying "could not initialize 3D output" and gives me a link to the DirectX 9.0c DL. Does anyone know what can fix this problem? I used system restore and it brought back the oroginal drivers, but I want to use the new frivers and play my game. PLZ any help would be apriciated

well last time I tried to update directX then it gave me the same problem. but I wasnt to worried about it as much since the game is made to also run on lower end machines
Edit: I just upgraded to DirectX 9.0c and still it gives me the same problem when I try to update my drivers. I also tried to install the Omega drivers that recently came out for ATI , bit still the same problem Last edited by Jonny B Good; Mar 24, 2006 at 03:01 AM. |

Hmm.. isn't the new patch for Guild Wars make it directX9.0c required (for the new upcoming expansion) and your card is only DX8 compliant? Due to the game upgrading to 9.0c now you might be hosed if that's the case.
Even if you reverted back to 8.0 the game is now requiring 9.0c. Don't worry about upgrading your system.. it'll still work with your DX8.0 ONLY card. ![]() If I'm right, the next best thing would to be to ditch the old tech and upgrade. (?) Can't be all that expensive to get a basic card that does 9.0. |

You need to go ahead and upate your system with the DirectX 9.0c drivers. Don't worry if your card won't support DX 9. That's not the problem as DX 9 has backward compatibility.
Do this and then see if your game works again. |

Ok I did like you sayed and DirectX 9 works great, and it looks awsome by the way, so now when I try and upgrade my video card driver it doesnt work. Is there any way to fix this, or will I have to live with old drivers?

Once you open that location, if you have other previous drivers installed, they'll all be there under their respective folders. Just make sure you identify the correct folder for the CAT 6.3 drivers. Now, open up Device Manager; Hardware and go to your 9200 under the Display Adapters. Highlight your 9200 and then select the Upgrade Driver icon in the options above. When you're asked how to upgrade, select the Have Disk option and then navigate to the folder for the drivers. If you have further trouble or questions, feel free to ask. |
