Half Life 2 Details Please

Half Life was based on a heavily modified Q2 Engine. So what is HL2 based on? I think Half Life 2 would be great on the new Unreal Engine. So what gives? Are they waiting for Doom 3 Engine to come out and use that engine or something? The original Half Life engine is getting too old.

Well, nobody knows really. I mean anything out of valve is hush hush(I mean I seriously doubt TF2 will be using the q2 engine...) . Even though its being published by interplay for X-box. That is really all that is known.

However. I have it on good authority that DeusEx 2 will be using the same player physics as HL. So one would think being its a Unreal Warfare based engine that the player phyiscs are already ported. In other words there is a good chance that HL2 will be an Unreal warfare game. Thats jsut a guess though.

I agree on Half Life engine, too old
Love the game

Unreal Tournament 2003 of course uses Quake 3 Engine, not like the playable DEMO, it was using hmmm, "Pinto Engine", LOL

Both Unreal 2 and BF1942 engines look awesome, depending on your resources.

DOOM 3 engine can't wait, Love that game too.
Hope its not a disappointment like Nightfire

The Early Demo Was..

The UT2K3 Demo when it came out, it was comparable with the Q3 Engine. But once the full game came rolling out, UT2K3 proved it's worth. Q3 Engine still the best tho.

Yeah true true, the demo was nothing special and did look alot like Q3... I miss the volume and blockyness of the origional unreal engine... it had style and personality.

That is the general direction though. All the games are trying to go all CGI now... but why? I mean visual styles are cool and they make your game look different than other games. Ah well, wave of the future.

Basically the BIG MAN !! at Sierra used to work for Microsoft So as you would expect there is a little love bonding there!! and that is why Half Life 2 will be released on the Xbox first and I can confirm that it is in development and will be released shortly after for PC! I gotta say I can't stand Half-life, everyone raves about it, I got it at first release and it bored me, the loading half way down a corridor did my nut, but the scipting in the gameplay was something i was new to and that impresed me much, I'm sure I'll give HL2 ago, and I hope it's based on the Unreal2 engine coz that rox on my PC
