I got a free full-game in the mail today!!!
Nintendo sent it to me. It's Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for the Nintendo DS.
I'm not real sure why they sent it to me, but ya know, thanks. I didn't even have any announcement that it was coming.....it was a pleasant surprise. This game supposedly helps to make you smarter by exercising your brain. The minigames are interesting and the voice recognition and stylus input are remarkably good. As you play, it keeps track of your "Brain Age". This is an age between 20 and 80, 20 being the best since the brain is supposed to be the most receptive at that age. It has Sudoku for peeps that like that. I haven't really had the chance to check it out properly, but from what little I played it, it looks VERY interesting. If it makes me smarter in the process, so much the better. I like the little tidbits of info about the brain and how it showed graphs of what areas of the brain were active given a specific task. It was just....interesting, ya know? I plan to check it out in more detail real soon..... It gets released to the public April 17. Pretty awesome that Nintendo hooked me up with a free game. I guess that's because I registered the sytem and its games and posted in their forums a lot....whatever Free = happy. WOOT!

Yeah I read about another person on gamefaqs getting brain age mailed to them also. I wonder what the requirements are? How many games have you registered on their website?

I registered 17 games (some GBA, some DS) and the DS itself.
But I saw a few people that said they only had 4 games and a system or two registered, so I figure that it was either random, or because I post at their forums a lot without spamming it to death. I'm not sure. I was gonna buy the game anyway, now I don't have to. It's only gonna be $20 US when it comes out, so it's worth a look, especially if it actually works to improve mental acuity. I'm gettin' old and lazy..... |

Heh I went into my preferences and said "I would like to recieve mail from nintendo". I also have 17 things registered. I'll buy brain age based on their sudoku implementation. If it's too simple, then no way.

It's neat how the SudoKu game works. You touch the square you want to fill with your stylus and it blows up so you can write your number there. It recognizes what you write pretty darn well too. I was impressed. I've never played SuDoku before, so I didn't do very well at it, but it understood the numbers I wrote every time.

I need some sort of note-taking mechanism when I play sudoku, just entering the numbers isn't enough.

I'm starting to encounter issues with some of the later tests that get unlocked.
The test in particular is the word memory test. It shows you about 30 four-letter words (not bad words ) for 2 minutes, then gives you a minute or two to write down the words you remember. It's having a hard time understanding letters I write in resulting in a low score for the test. It's not so bad during the actual Brain Training mode, you can skip doing that one if you want, but when it comes up during the Brain Age test it can really goof up your score. |
