Deus x crash + FEAR sound anomolie Help!

I recently bought invisible war deus ex and i cant get the little bugger to operate. Everytime i attempt to play it i get no futher than the option screen, where the sound gets caught in a loop, and the screen freezes. Sometimes it does not get as far as that.
I exceed the game requirements, with P4 D 830, 1 Gig O Ram and an MSI 6800 pci card. My soundcard is onboard realtek HD audio output. I run windows xp and direct x 9c. I have tried setting the processor affinity the 1 core, this does not help, and the troubleshooting guide @ eidos is pony

On a similer vein my sound file's for Fear are acting strange. I had not played it for a while, a couple of weeks ago i went back to it (no fresh install) and the communications from the fat commander are missing, as are cut scene scripts. All the other sounds are there i think, music and effects.
I have attempted to re-install sound drivers with no effect.
The sound in other games such as HL2 CSS Mohaa Q4 and FM06 are completly unaffected.
Idea's?
