Doom 3 BETTER not be like Unreal 2

Unreal 2, even tho I gave it an 8/10, it disappointed me. I should decrease it to a 7/10. But the point is, Doom 3 is debuting a new Engine, I sincerely hope that ID Software is going to make an "Interactive Gallery of Computer Graphics" out of the game. Unreal 2 felt like that. It was all beautiful and everything, but they lacked on gameplay. I trust ID Software tho, they brought Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Now all they have to do is bring me back to Doom with Doom 3 and I'm set.

Well, uh, yeah. You know the reason they have 4-5 year dev times nowadays is to make games look really shiny. I mean duh. If your an engine maker all the better you need to showcase the thing with medicore gameplay but looks frigging good so you can sell the engine and make the big bucks.

heh, I mean it was a million for the lithtech engine not too long ago...

Well the graphics in doom are gonna be a lot more shiny. and this is DOOM the mother of all first person shooters, excluding the original wolfenstein. Anyone who snook a peak at the alpha will know the gameplay is great.

Yea that alpha was pretty sweet! The gameplay is rather solid and lets not forget the sound. The sounds sent shrills down my spine

What I'm worried about Doom 3 is that the models are quite simple in terms of polygon number, and lightning play a huge role, so making mods or total conversions is gonna be tricky to say the least...

The Alpha looked good, although 4,5 .. I think its nearly 6 years awaiting Doom III.

sometimes i still bust out 1 and 2 and play it w/ ZDoom..

DooM had, and still has, everything..
Good graphics (although spritebased, still the best), great
sound, awesome music, cool levels.. and tons and tons of
mods and tc's..

and System Shock 2.. i do wish that they were around
long enough to make a part 3.. or a revamped Part 2..

But I think they could have encorporated more thought into the levels.
It's amazing Static Mesh is the wave of the future.
