I was wondering how PC games and other platform games will be like in a few years..
I think they will be a lot more realistic with the advancement of our technology.. and then I thought is that really what I want? I mean I dont want to play a game thats like real life because then that takes most of the fun away and I think it would suck and well I thought i should post this to see what YOU guys thought about it and whether or not the Fun in games will decrase for you..

Interesting, i just read an article or interview a week ago don't remeber where about this same subject. And the game developer said that graphic tecnologies would only go so far, making a game that looked like real time real life actions would freak the hell out of gamers and would take out all the fun in gaming. I think the sweet spot is not real time photo realism but very close to it. I think in terms of graphics and games things will eventually come to a stop, or maybe im just wrong. Who knows...

I too think graphics can only go so far I think that Nintendo is taking the next step in gameing and that is not improving the looks of games(because I mean seriously the graphics we have today are just fine...) but improving the way we play the games in general.

Yeah like Judas said that unreal engine 4 is slick.. and maybe yet still enjoyable no? and you have a point tobey I think they should only go so far as well.. and everyone should focus on the fun factor of the game and just how the game is played.. like nintendo is doing I think they get the picture that its not all about graphics

no no.. .unreal 3 engine is almost out... i'm saying the unreal 4 engine.. may have all the peach fuzz
![]() i'm just saying, perhaps in shoot em ups... it may get disturbing.. but in full blown arcade type games and racing and various other things.... it would be quite interesting to be able to see various things that look steller real.

Hmm I see what you mean.. but even in racing games.. for example.. NFS:MW I mean the guys at Electronic Arts still have it they have GREAT driving sims that give you that fun arcade game feel.. as for Gran turismo 4 which I was very disapointed by they made it like.. "too real" and like it gets too technical and handling is terrible.. and Ive played gt3 I played it from th day I bought my PS2 till the day I sold it and that game was a bit technical and you had to know about psyx and all the parts of car to get a good handling car.. it the game was great.. but now.. the gt4 is liek. "wth" I just hop ethat epopel dont go too far with the graphics because I think it wont be as fun

I think the key is still in lighting and shadows, once we have a way to reproduce lifelike light we will be where we need to be.

imo, graphics and physics are to completely different things.. that although do go hand in hand.. you can still have the graphical physics lifelike realism and still have the fun arcadey playstyle..
IMO, a damn good racing game would have a "TruPhysics" and "ArcPhysics" playstyle option. Tru would introduce more real life like physics which involve so many damn factors, it would be very much like driving the real thing (although GT4 didn't feel quite right) where Arc would introduce system barbaric but still simplist physics which gives a good sense of expections of driving in a game and having a hell of alot of fun.

Graphics will have reached its peak when you can finally have photorealistic jungle settings in fps and adventure games. Every generation seems to have its step forward in this respect starting with Goldeneye then Soldier of Fortune 2 , Farcry and if you've seen the jungle settings in Crysis that would be the next evolution.

I can drift fine in GT4...
There will be two kinds of games in teh future. THe ones who aim for perfect perfection and then the ones that aim for surrealism. Just like in painting... First everyone wanted realism and slowly, we went abstract

well no..
the GT4 physics system is no wear near complete.. and it's "handling" isn't exactly realistic.. mind you they are trying... they just seem to feel that they arn't all heading in the right direction OR they are forgetting that some of the way things handle, require other physics to counter them... I mean when your skidding around a corner, specially in the rally portion... there are ruts and whatnot..... and soft spots or other seriously physics related things that you can either lose to or take advantage of or that counter or help they way things are handled. imo, like i was saying, ripping around a corner in the game you gotta slow down for considerably... in comparison to if there were a bit of a soft spot with the visible ruts left from other drivers, you should be able to rip around that same corner much quicker and with a different feel if ALL the physics were actually there. Hell, it gets extremely technical when the simple reving of the engine suddenly on a turn could help make the turn only that slight easier. The factors are enourmous..... when you only have 1/4 of them being actually expressed.. you end up with either a difficult game, or a game that doesn't feel right... i find GT4 quite like that....

i seriously like photorealistic graphic games. Makes it all too real. problem is we think its the real world and we end up dying of starvation cause we didnt get our butts of the sheet. i keep thinking goggles/photorealistic graphics when i think of the future of gaming

really do not think games will look that good for a very long time/ years / never.
Games right now look good but they do not look life like at all. No games out now do. FEAR/oblivion/halflife 2 None. Even dx10 games coming out do not. Games graphics do not change as much as they used to not much of a difference between old and new games. |

Oh yes there is... DX10 hasn't even poked it's head but I'm sure it'll be just as good as DX8 to DX9!

Richard Burns Rally has the most realistic physics of any racing game.. it's damn near perfect in the dirt.. The physics engine is limited though, but the guy who is responsible for those physics is making a new game of his own called RaceCom..
I am predicting that game will have the best tarmac physics of any race sim.. as it is now for tarmac racing there are a few good ones out there, but none hit the nail on the head..

if a game is to real. it ruins the fun and might tramatize folks. like if the graphics are too real. and u kill sum1 in the game and it looks so real. u start feeling guilty and stuff. its not just about the eye candy. photorealitic graphics might have a psychological effect on a person too

well at that point in time, some ones mind snaps and they go crazy. and if it comes to that, then it comes to that.

the psychological aspect is where ratings come in....kids get M rated games at younger and younger ages now....
Games like Painkiller or Postal are disturbing enough for an M rating regardless of graphics....realistic graphics, and particularly facial expressions would make it even more distressign though, yes....and with the route nintendo's going...it's only a matter of time until 6 year olds can use glocks just as well as cops |
