I watched all 3 full presentations from E3 2006. Here are my thoughts from what I saw in the 3+ hours of presentations:
360: The system looks great! I have to admit. Microsoft has really got some good ideas and some really good games out and on the way. I really like their "Live Anywhere" service. That looks really promising. Wii: I am really impressed with their controller. Their graphics look good and I can already see that there will be some games where I can get my family involved. I am also really impressed with the download service. I can't wait to bring some old classics to life again. ![]() PS3: The graphics looked great, but that seemed to be the main focus. "look what we can do" Not innovative at all... When I saw their "new" remake of the ps1/ps2 controller I knew that they have been watching Nintendo closely and they must see some promise in the motion detection capabilities of the Wii. What are your thoughts?? |

My points of view:
XBOX360 M$ has really been showing that their console is the best out there and I gotta agree. The new games, new addons and services + reduced price is making them very competitive indeed and even though I'm not a M$ fan, they really have been playing their cards very well indeed. Most impressive console on the market (and in the forseeable future) WII Mixed feelings. While the controller is going to be "revolutionary", I find the graphics look as bad as my PS2 and that accept for the interaction in between player and game, gameplay looks average. No real world interactions and no real reason for me buy one honestly. It's a "cute" idea for the younger kids. Just not enough serious games and seeing how their console is soooo weak, they are going to be missing out on the good franchises (NFS, SplinterCell, Tony Hawks, etc). PS3 Huge let down... Graphics (which they say are better than the 360s) are the same, the games, even though polished, don't have the "must have" factor and their controller sucks badly. I remeber having the sidewinder for the PC which had the same tech and honestly, I hated it... The thing is, two of the gaming companies are trying to revolutionize in the controller market and here is why I sorta find it tooo risky. For the PS3 (example), you always have to have your controller level in Warhawk for example. You let your hands relax or something and the controller won't be netural but still react in game. That means you can't really let yourself go since you gotta always be steady and all with your hands. And the Wii, well even though it has promise, I want to sit down on my couch and play a game without having to be standing or waving my arm around like an idiot. I mean, the EyeToy for PS2 already did this and while it's fun for a while, it just gets extremely annoying. Exercise is good but not on console... I do real sports for that! And that's why I find M$ has done the right choice... They have the only true console: a machine to relax and enjoy next gen gaming. |
