Playing the original Doom all the way thru without cheating with my friend Mike M and running out to pick up the first Lucas Arts gaming pack because it was the first thing to have a playable demo of "Dark Forces" that we knew about at the time and we stayed up about 18 hours straight playing it.

Yea Dig Dark Forces was way so cool with the best sound effects at the time. I remember staying up all night with my commadore 64 playing Indiana Jones and the Lost Kingdom by Mindscape I though the Graphics were good. Man we have came along way.

I'd have to say that the games I've gotten alot of fun out of are:
Defender of The Crown on the old C64. I played that game until the disk died, then I bought another one so I could play some more. Back then, I just couldn't get enough of it. (now I have it in an emulator) All the old "Gold Box" edition D&D RPG's (also on the C64). And I mean ALL of them. A friend and I played those for hours on end mapping out the dugeons and devising strategies for battling the enemies. These games are probably my main reason for not liking most of the ones that exist nowadays. I burnt myself out on that top-down, 3/4 perspective view many years ago. Flying games, not the overbearing "gotta-be-a-pilot-to play-it" types that you find on the PC, the FUN ones like Air Combat on the PS1 (the last console I ever owned) that were just happy-fun. Crimson Skies is the only FUN flight game that I have found for the PC. Are there other FUN flight games for the PC that don't load you down with all that simulation bla bla? Racing games. Mostly the arcadey ones, I don't care for the simulation style ones much (racing in circles does NOTHING for me). Racing games tend to go along with my impatient nature very well. Plus, 99.99% of the racing games for the PC actually work with a controller. ![]() Blast-a-thon games. Not FPS's, those got old and tired to me after about Doom 2. I mean the "one ship against the world" types or 3D spaceship blasters. The Star Wars games; Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo, Starfighter are a good example. Silpheed on the SegaCD is another good one. The "Freespace" series was great! So was Wing Commander to a lesser extent. I can't rem the name of this one game I played on the PS1, but it was pretty cool. Everything was in 3D and you're character (3rd person view) ran through the levels and could fire independently of the direction he was running. That game was pure gaming bliss; spectacular graphics, loads of FUN. I don't know, I guess I'm getting old and bitter or something. Most games tend not to hold my interest very long anymore. They all have that "been there, done that" feeling to them now. I always get this feeling like there is something else I should be doing besides playing a video game, know what I mean? I seem to be drawn to getting a new game, but I never end up playing them much. Heh....hey Mystic, you must be REALLY bored to be inspired by something I said. ![]() And just to keep the peace, I bear no animosity towards anyone for the games they like to play or the methods they use to control them. I'm just very finicky when it comes to games and can get very vocal with my opinionated self, even if my opinion is a bit cracked, I stand by it.

ahhaha.. i'm still cracking up at the joypad comments you keep making..
ah, doom.. hell -- i still install it and play it every now and then.. it's got that feeling you don't get with any of other FPS's.. and every now and then, i'll co-op it with a friend who wants to play it as well (yeah, my friends and I get bored.. hell, i just spent 3 hours trying to find a game to play with my friend tonight).. I remember playing Dark Forces before.. but I got stuck somewhere and gave up on it.. The only thing that I remember is a.. sewer.. level.. or something.. Anyone else had an Amiga? Silkworm, Space Harrier ("Welcome.. to the fantasy zone!"), Agony.. So many games on the Amiga i had so much fun with.. Lemmings! And I played Defender of the Crown on the Amiga.. at least, I think it was.. Sword fights and territories, right? I miss the Wing Commander games.. I remember getting home from school and playing that all day until i had to sleep (homework? what's that?).. And like Rayder, all games that seem to come out now-a-days don't seem to hold my attention anymore.. they're all boring.. Every now and then, i'll hook up my C64 or Amiga just to play some of the better games ever made. ![]() And yeah, i get pretty damn bored. You know, to the point where SLEEP doesn't even sound appealing. Holy crap, I just remembered some of the best games I've played on the PC after re-reading rayder's post.. tyrian, traffic department, one must fall.. damn, i still wish i had the shareware versions of those.. i say game companies should release shareware version of their games instead of these crappy demos with only 1 level, or car, or track, or screen shot.. <insert e1m9 music from doom1> geez.. i could go on with all the games i've ever played..

I would have to say for me that the Wing Commander was by far my most favorite of all time.
However I have also spent many a sleepless night playing RPG's like Bard Tale, Eye of the Beholder, and Might and Magic. |

Oh man, I totally spaced all the "Scott Adams Adventure Series" text games! I used to be totally hooked on those and would play them for days at a time when I was in my teens.
